When I got home today at 3ish my cat was crying. He only ever does this when he's in distress. It doesn't look like he's drank anything today but I've seen him eat a bit. He's an indoor cat and my flat is very hot. I've just been out for a couple of hours, got home and he's crying again. I don't know what's wrong and I'm starting to really worry. He's washing himself a bit. I've made the flat as cool as I can. He won't let me near him really I thought about trying to make him cooler with a towel.

Thank you everyone. They've said he has suspected heatstroke and needs IV fluids and monitoring overnight. I'm so glad I brought him in. They said he should be fine though.

So pleased he's ok😊

Thank you everyone I really appreciate it. These pets really steal our hearts!! And he means the absolute world to me. I'm so glad I rang the vet.

Glad he’s OK!

Apparently cats groom themselves more when they’re hot to cool themselves so if you notice them doing it more you can gently stroke them with a cold damp towel and this helps cool them quickly. Depends on how laid back your cat is though!

Also I find even in heat my cat drinks quite little water so on hot days I give her cat milk and she drinks a lot of it.

Yeah he's really timid so I had the idea about the cold towel but he wouldnt let me near him. I put it out for him to lie on but he wouldn't use it

Cats are such a pain when you’re trying to help. We bought a cool mat for our cat a few years ago. She sat on it once. Never again.
