Pool / beach holiday - what might I have forgot to pack?

Workyticket · 19/07/2022 19:23

Flying on Thursday morning to Turkey for 3 weeks

I'm all packed for me, dh and ds (10) but what might I have left out?

Not been away for a few years!

We always take pringles for the plane as the ones on board are in a tiny pot and are very expensive

@Sycamoretrees I'm packing my cossies in my hand luggage as I have huge boobs and panic I'd not be able to replace them if that happened - I'd be devastated

After sun
Earplugs (for swimming) (for snoring)
Adaptor
Waterproof case for phone

Ilikecheesycrackers · 19/07/2022 20:07

Also - always take knickers and a clean t shirt in your hand luggage!

user850301848172 · 19/07/2022 20:09

Suntan lotion and lots of it. It's roasting over there.

Pack lots of aftersun, the gel type you can put in the fridge.

Bars of soap go a lot further than a bottle of shower gel. Same with shampoo bars.

A specific set of t shirts your ds can wear over to protect his shoulders or a swim vest and a hat.

I took 1 travel adapter and an extension cable, made charging so much easier.

Eurax for insect bites

The following medications:
Calpol
Paracetamol
Ibuprofen
Piriton
Plasters

Most importantly, put your swim stuff in your hand luggage incase your room isn't ready when you get there.

Split your clothes between the 3 cases. So if one gets lost, you have fresh clothes to wear as does everyone else if their case goes missing.

Talcum powder for getting sand off of little legs

Photocopy passports
Nail polish for touch ups

I'm wiggling my freshly painted toe nails right now!
Need to do my finger nails 2m then will pop it in. I've added it to my last minute list

I have lists for all forms of holidays / weekends away / overnight stays which I'd be happy to send you?

Ds has packed his snacks - pringles, jellies and sucky sweets 😋

Knowledge of the words in the Turkish language should there be any male waiters or other men who don't talk to your face but look lower down.

The observation about what to put in your hand luggage I agree with.

I feel you with the feet swelling.

This has some good exercises you can do on the plane, that might help.

As another poster suggested, after sun. If you have a fridge in your room, keep it in there. At night apply the cold aftersun. Best feeling in the world.

We have 10 bottles of sun cream + loads of afternoon and Skin so Soft spray

I have no idea how our cases are still way under weight at 16kg, 14kg and 9kg (jet2 so we get 22kg each I think!)

Mini medicines kit?

Calpol fast melts (for the 10 year old)
Buscopan
Diaorylte
Piriton
Paracetamol/ibuprofen
Plasters

I'm know it's all stuff you can get there, but you always end up needing that stuff when the pharmacy is shut (bitter experience!)

Turkish pharmacies are bloody fantastic though. People consult the pharmacist like a doctor.

I am not convinced you need to be prepared for every eventuality under the sun. You need a plaster, you will be able to get plasters, you forgot your toothpaste, we brush our teeth too.

Ooh yes please

I'll read them discreetly, dh is already eyeing my list on Alexa app!

Wish I'd thought of this before I finished work - lots of my students are Turkish

To be fair I'm 40+ and a bit fat so I don't attract much attention these days

Thanks - I'll look. I have lymphedema so they're swollen most of the time but definite worse in the heat

We've just returned from Turkey and it was crazy hot. The amount of sunburned children was horrifying. Make sure you've got huge amounts of high factor and decent cover up clothes for the DC.

Workyticket · 19/07/2022 20:20

@StColumbofNavron good point

I get ear infections on holiday (ended up at the hospital last time)

Can pharmacists prescribe antibiotics do you know? I begged my doctors receptionist here for the antibiotic ear drops I know work but she wouldn't let me put the request in without a current infection

I've been keeping my eye on the temperature

We have 10 bottles of factor 50 and ds wears a rash vest but I still worry 😟

Swim ear to use to prevent ear infections. My DC used to get them everywhere (know ‘ear infection in 5 languages). Swim ear after pool stops that.

4 way plug extension so you can charge all devices at once from one travel adaptor.

Grumpybutfunny · 19/07/2022 20:32

If you have space inflatables, £60 each in some resorts!

Like this kind of stuff?
