I was expecting to be dying today but am fine. Got a fan upstairs but not even feeling hot enough to bring it down yet. Just seems like a normal sunny day

Am near Manchester

I think it is the lack of humidity, slightly reminiscent of holidays in Greece when I go outside

This. Humidity levels are thankfully low and there's a stiff breeze here (SE). It's nowhere near as bad as I expected. Haven't even used the fan yet... tomorrow is hotter though so expect will need it then.

Bigmouthshouthotair · 18/07/2022 18:25

Still 38 here

It's 35 outside here, but my house is a comfortable 24 degrees. Tiled floors and very high ceilings both help, I guess. The house gets very cold in the winter (wattle and daub walls) but seems to be staying relatively cool in this hot weather. Hopefully it stays that way!

ApolloandDaphne · 18/07/2022 19:24

I'm on the east coast of Scotland. It is 26 with a little breeze and I am sitting drinking Prosecco in the garden. It is lovely.

cottagegardenflower · 18/07/2022 19:24

In Yorkshire in the super heated zone. 36C. It's ridiculous and feel awful.

ElspethBoomingHowsen · 18/07/2022 19:27

I was ok until this afternoon. It’s 27.5 inside and still 37 outside. I’ve got a splitting headache but the bonus is my 4 year old went out like a light at 6.30!

peanutbutter00 · 18/07/2022 19:30

It got to 39 outside here, inside is 31 degrees at the moment (top floor flat) had the windows and curtains shut all day but it's stifling. Struggling a bit

Notnowbarnaby · 18/07/2022 19:32

South east here, was fine until the afternoon then we felt it! My garden thermometer showed 40 at 3pm but was in direct sun so probably not quite as high as that. Currently in my kitchen and sweating from just standing!

RockinHorseShit · 18/07/2022 19:35

Ditto. It's beyond baking outside, but our old house is so far staying nice & cool. I only have one fan going for our cats as I think they are feeling it a little more than me

I'm floating between the paddling pool and hot tub, not as hot as predicted in the north east

Where in the north east? Because I'm right on the Co Durham coast and it's boiling 🥵

Titsywoo · 18/07/2022 19:37

We are fine in the house. We shut all curtains and covered any glass without and it has been pretty cool. We do have aircon in our bedroom so nighttime will be ok. In SE and it was about 36 here earlier - hoping tomorrow isn't as bad as forecast.

NannyGythaOgg · 18/07/2022 19:40

I have felt much worse when the temp has been 24/25 ish with high humidity.

Dry heat I can tolerate much better. I do have a fan going and am about to have a second shower - and will probably have a third before I go to bed.

SirenSays · 18/07/2022 14:17

I confessed to friends on Friday that I didnt think it would feel that hot here. I was immediately jumped on and told I was wrong, it will be 40+ and we'd all melt...
It feels like another summer day and isn't as high as predicted. I'm resisting saying I told you so 🤣

That's tomorrow

badgerbognor · 18/07/2022 19:47

Wales. Hottest day on record. So hot inside and outside the house. And I have the windows covered as best I can and shut during the day.

Its hot in the shade outside too.

Its just HOT.

WeAllHaveWings · 18/07/2022 19:49

"Only" 27 degree here in Scotland and I am baking!

Blinds closed all day, 18" fan on pointing right at me with a huge jug of ice in front of it and it is not helping at all.

I have been feeding our black labrador ice lollies in the shade.

Reminds me of this infamous tweet from exactly a year ago tomorrow.

Anyone else not that hot?
SortingOffice · 18/07/2022 19:51

Humidity is very low. If we had our normal UK high humidity we'd feel much worse.

maddiemookins16mum · 18/07/2022 19:57

I’m in Kent and am hugging a frozen wet tea towel (in a zip
lock bag at present). Only have a small fan which is helping a bit. It’s currently 27 degrees in our lounge.

dementedma · 18/07/2022 20:01

About 23 out in the garden and lovely. Central Scotland

BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ · 18/07/2022 20:05

In London. When I went to pick my daughter up from school around 3pm my car said the outside temperature was 41. Could well believe it, it was like walking through soup. It’s now still too hot outside but the house is relatively cool (apart from the loft bedroom).

TattyBogart · 18/07/2022 16:11

I take it back

School run (walk!) in 36°

Am dead

Same for me today ! Thought it was ok till I did the school run!! Wow hot!!

EntertainingandFactual · 18/07/2022 20:08

Currently 35 degrees here.
Strangely I have felt hotter and more uncomfortable in lower temperatures.
it’s not humid though. Maybe that’s the difference.

Kiitos · 18/07/2022 20:08

It’s been up to 35 here today. I’ve been in the garden all day. I love the heat. Depends what you’re used to I suppose!

TheVolturi · 18/07/2022 20:15

Not far from Manchester either, and at the time you started this thread I agreed. Now I'm about five mins away from being a melted puddle of human.

psychomath · 18/07/2022 20:18

Weirdly I'm fine with being hot outside and actually sat out in the sun at midday (was about 33 degrees here). Obviously with suncream and hat etc. Hate being hot indoors though so I have all the curtains shut in my house and taped foil over the windows at work that don't have blinds - it's a bit warmer in my house than I'd like but not unpleasant. The foil worked a treat and I'd do it at home too if my windows were smaller.

The only time it felt really grim today was getting the bus after work - I was properly soaked with sweat by the endnof the 20 minute journey Envy Suspect it might be worse tomorrow, when buildings are already warm from the heat today and then get hit by full sun again.
