… and hand out free ice creams (well, not free, I’m paying obviously). I thought people might like it but I didn’t realise quite HOW excited they would get! I guess everyone just loves a flake 99 🤣

Sounds great.

Notmybloodymonkeys · 18/07/2022 14:26

We arranged this one year at my old workplace and it went down a treat until the few people who were off for the day heard about it and wouldn’t stop moaning. You’d think they’d missed out on a million quid each not a Mr Whippy.

That sounds like a lovely idea! Wish I worked with you .

I've done similar at a laundry. Went to Iceland with a cool box bought ice lollies for 70 Odd staff I couldn't afford the van. Everyone appreciated it

On hot days my boss would send someone out on an ice cream run - there was an ice cream parlour a few doors away from the office. Yes it was lovely to have a free ice cream but it was more than a free treat, it was all of us - from the top boss down to the office junior doing something slightly naughty together. That would have been 40 years ago!

Sparklybutold · 18/07/2022 14:40

This is so lovely to read ❤️

BeenHereForYonkyDoodles · 18/07/2022 14:41

Lovely idea!

MassiveSalad22 · 18/07/2022 14:42

Lush! Our PTA have arranged this for Wednesday 🙌🏻

FourChimneys · 18/07/2022 14:44

A long time ago when I worked for a company our boss would buy ice creams on a hot day. He would also get pizzas delivered if we were working late.

mumda · 18/07/2022 14:44

Some of the local schools do this. It's very very popular.

vinnywoolf · 18/07/2022 14:46

Very Cool OP, send it round here when you're done!

ancientgran · 18/07/2022 14:54

When I was a teenager I was a Saturday girl at the local M&S. One day when it was very hot we went for our afternoon break and the manager had bought strawberries and icecream for everyone. We were sworn to secrecy so that it would be a surprise for people going up for the later break.

It is over 50 years ago and it still makes me smile to think how excited we were with those bowls of icecream and fresh strawberries.

It is a lovely thing to do.

anderosonnmj · 18/07/2022 15:10

My kid's school did this a few weeks ago. DS said he didn't fancy one so didn't get one. I would have been first in the queue!

Sartre · 18/07/2022 15:14

DH’s workplace does this a few times a year, they also buy them all fish and chips a couple of times. Not jealous at all.

ILoveWillSmith · 18/07/2022 15:37

I work in a hospital and this morning a local ice cream van just turned up to give free ice cream to staff - not all heroes wear capes!! Wink

Thinkingblonde · 18/07/2022 15:39

My boss used to hand out free ice lollies at the clothing factory during hot weather, we loved him for it.

Delphigirl · 18/07/2022 17:07

It cost just under £200 but would have been worth it at 2ce the price. Honestly everyone loved it and went nuts with extra sprinkles and choc/strawberry sauce 🤣
it was just what we all needed actually, a real morale boost. 39C when I got in my car just now…

I've bought lollies and crème eggs for everyone. My own manager would never dream of doing it!!

Hawkins001 · 18/07/2022 19:15

Very kind hearted or a strategic, Machiavelli perspective, to build team cohesion, either way very sweet gesture, op. @Delphigirl

This is awesome!

We were given free ice creams today and it lifted everyone's mood so much. We're public sector so don't really get anything free and we were all so grateful and happy

EntertainingandFactual · 18/07/2022 20:25

Our high school arranged for an ice cream van to be at sports day every year.
We were all given a card ‘token’ to trade in for an ice cream or lolly. We could buy more if we wanted.
Must have cost them a fortune but I remember it so well! (Ordinary comprehensive btw!)

WFHquestion · 18/07/2022 20:27

I'm a bit inspired by this thread and wondering if a box of 40 ice pops might be a good idea for DD to take to school for her class tomorrow.

Your kindness today will not be forgotten.

Gestures like this make all the difference!
I love the fact that they went crazy over the sprinkles!! 🤣
