If you were me, what would you do tomorrow?

Before anyone turns this into a “I can’t believe you’re so dependent on your husband” thread, I’m not. It’s lighthearted and I’d love to know people’s idea of downtime. I’m usually off doing things (with or without husband) at weekends but tomorrow is an exception.

I’m home alone tomorrow without a car. My husband has to be several hours away from 8am to approximately 10pm. He needs to drive and my car is currently in the garage so I’m vehicleless.

We live very rurally and nowhere at all within walking distance- nearest village shop is 12 miles away. Getting a taxi here is an ordeal, I was shopping today so don’t want to go again tomorrow, and I’m not close to a beach/park.

No kids. Secluded rural house with big garden and a lovely covered patio. Neighbours are scarce and, while I get on with them, we’re not friendly enough to spend days together. No family within 200 miles. It’ll be hot here tomorrow and I’m not a big fan of the heat, but a snooze on the patio will definitely be on the agenda.

Have a dog but he’s a big and fluffy breed and very much feels the heat so will spend the day lolling in his paddling pool, and snoozing on the kitchen tiles in front of his fan. I’ll take him for a walk at 7am before it gets hot, and again in the evening when the ground-temperature eases a bit.

Have plenty of food in, plus booze and ample ice-cream. Have Netflix, Disney+ etc. I can cook, but not too keen in this heat. Will do some light gardening. And my chin will need plucking.

Cleaner was here yesterday so don’t need to do any cleaning.

The world is my fairly-confined oyster.

So far, I’m thinking:

7am: Walk the dog.
8am: Wave husband goodbye and head back to bed with an iced coffee.
10am: Nice breakfast.

If you were me for a day, how would you spend your time? Feel free to give me an hourly breakdown, if you’d like, and to recommend series I should watch, or a book I can get stuck into.

I'd start watching stranger things or umbrella academy on Netflix if you haven't seen them already. Or rewatch GreysAnatomy on Disney+.
Id do my Pilates in a nice quiet house, play loud music and dance around my living room. Maybe a sort of of my wardrobe.

Dustnbones · 17/07/2022 09:51

Very jealous of your day Smile

I highly recommend the Rivers of London book if you like crime and want something different

Lovelycheese · 17/07/2022 09:53

Threads like this question whether I really want kids. Presumably that's why most can't? I could do this every weekend if I wanted...

I recommend a Maggie O Farrel book op - enjoyable but not too heavy or trashy.

gamerchick · 17/07/2022 09:53

Ah enjoy OP. Sounds like heaven Grin

Athenajm80 · 17/07/2022 09:54

If you like Greek myths, I highly recommend Elektra and Ariadne, both by Jennifer Saint. The Grecian Women series by Hannah Lynn is also good and free at the moment on Kindle Unlimited/Prime.

Enjoy your day 😁

kimfox · 17/07/2022 09:56

I was about to say get stuck into a book but I see you are already looking! enjoy the peace and quiet 😊

wohmum · 17/07/2022 09:58

The Louise Penny inspector Gamache series are pretty good . The early ones are best read in order

WingBingo · 17/07/2022 10:09

Rivers of London is a very good shout. Excellent series.

MustardCress · 17/07/2022 10:15

Sounds idyllic 😀

But I would stay off the internet completely! Other than streaming tv.

Just really slow down, listen to the radio maybe but also have lots of silence. Read lying in the bed or sofa. Watch a Joan Hickson Miss Marple.

But mostly stay off the internet 😉 be immersed in your day. I’m getting off MN now before anyone calls me a hypocrite!

Beetr00t · 17/07/2022 10:19

My book club LOVED The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

easyday · 17/07/2022 10:27

I'd do that then maybe try out a recipe or walk round my garden seeing what needs improving (and inevitably do a bit of weeding/deadheading). But mostly I'd get a pitcher of something cool and slightly alcoholic and a good book and just enjoy some uninterrupted time.
Mind you I couldn't live in a rural place like that - I need to hear human activity around (though I could do without the bloke who seems to be hacking up his lungs every two minutes two gardens away). Love city life! But what I'd be doing today isn't much different to you if I was in my own with no set plans.

Goldenphoenix · 17/07/2022 10:27

Totally agree with the Rivers of London book series recommendation. The audio book versions are brilliant too.

Your day sounds absolutely blissful, enjoy!

dottiedodah · 17/07/2022 10:33

Sounds lovely! I would have a nice leisurely bath /shower .A lovely brunch .Then maybe take some Mumsnet /Interesting things OL .(ATM I am reading about a chap who is a "Flat Earther" but wishes he wasnt! Real life mysteries sort of thing.Take in the papers ?An afternoon nap and some light Supper!

jay55 · 17/07/2022 10:35

I'm spending the day in front the fan reading and watching Netflix. If I had a garden like you do I'd be outside doing much the same.
It's too hot to think about doing anything much.

Hope you have a lovely time.

I actually hate you right now

🤣🤣🤣

I've started watching undeclared war on channel 4. Only on episode 1 but looks good.

HelloSpringIveMissedYou · 17/07/2022 10:51

I am actually green with jealousy Envy

I often dream of days like these, one day I might get one Grin

LindaEllen · 17/07/2022 10:54

If it was me I'd have my book, the TV, nice snacks.. and be perfectly happy for however long I needed to be!

Mum4kids1dog · 17/07/2022 11:06

I rarely get a day like this but I love it. I'd plan to eat something nice, read a whole book or watch a full Netflix series. In reality, I finish off my housework, masturbate and sleep, wasting time.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 17/07/2022 11:17

Good food this is my idea of paradise. Here are some ideas I would enjoy;-

1-2 hours of yoga
Order MY favourite take away
Have a sleep
3-4 hours sat reading a book
Put some gel polish on my toe nails
Face mask

Sounds heavenly, enjoy! X

Heatstrokeunsteady · 17/07/2022 11:25

Stretches in out of the sunshine. Maybe a glass of wine in the shade mid afternoon

Rapunzel91 · 17/07/2022 11:42

Im so jealous! I often have were OH has the car for a few hours, live semi rurally but have a 3 year old to look after so your scenario is much more tempting 😄
if I were you I would do some sort of pampering as I enjoy that, avoid any housework, eat foods I love and watch at least one favourite film! Probably also have a nap and do some online shopping. Oh, what bliss!

MiWadiMyChoice · 17/07/2022 13:23

Right, so day is going swimmingly.

Had breakfast (poached eggs and bacon).

A little bit of gardening- roses have been deadheaded, pinched out a few dahlia.

Hosed down the dog for a bit to keep him cool so now I’m getting cold damp doggy kisses.

Having an iced coffee now, sitting outside in the shade and watching a movie on Netflix (The Weekend Away, based on a 99p psychological thrilled and, so far, so predictable). Also have some watermelon.

Going to have nachos for lunch, with a glass of wine.
