What’s with these XL Bullies?

Have just read that another of these dogs is responsible for a death.

I haven’t heard of them - what breed is this, a new one? Surely they should be banned?

If you Google the address it takes you to 'Leo's Bullys' and a link to his website.

leos-bullys.business.site/

OMFG that the website is still up!
As a bit of a dog fancier myself, it’s awful to see how badly bred a lot of these dogs look (and not just on that site, I see them advertised for stud on social media). Loads of clearly inbred characteristics like marl and “blue” colouring, strange light coloured eyes, pink noses/muzzles, straight hocks, sway backs, weak forequarters. It’s really bad.

Hoppinggreen · 06/10/2022 11:26

While I can’t imagine what this lady went through and she in no way deserved this she had apparently been treated at a hospital for dog bites previously so she and others KNEW these dogs were dangerous and continued to breed and make money from them

Wideawakeandconfused · 06/10/2022 19:12

These dogs are desired for for their muscle and strength. Let’s not make any excuses for that. You just need to spend 5 mins looking at breeder websites to see those are they characteristics desired by owners.

Now, stop imagining that these breeders for a moment think like you; or care about these animals. They don’t. Yes, they could do a lot with training. It’s not the breed etc etc but they want the dog to be scary. That’s what attracts the £££.

Just spend 10 mins on the internet and you’ll see the motivation behind the breeders who take advantage of this breed. Stop saying it’s not the breed. Sadly that’s exactly the reason we have the issue we have today. Breeders and buyers want scary, strong dogs. It’s what makes money.

Trigger: last week four XL bullies were found dead in body bags. They had been used for breeding. Clearly not up to much so disposable like they meant nothing.

Dogs need licenses now. Breeders need to be stopped now. No one should make money from the sale of dogs in a manner which makes them a threat to other people and animals. That’s exactly why this breed exists; it guards. Stop it now. If a dog was so well loved, why would you use it as a guard dog and risk it being killed?

Actually most dogs can cause life changing injuries a dachunnd or Jack Russell will easily take your eyes out or bite your nose off staffs can kill Dobermans Rottweiler cane corso all of the mastiff breeds greyhound blood hound German shepherd English bull terrier birds collies could all easily kill a 43 year old women and the list goes on so your statement makes no sense

Antog94 · 11/02/2023 23:32

No she may not because the people were dead I suppose a kid missing a eye or a nose isnt as bad you don’t have a clue what you’re on about clearly boast views and opinions on this thread with no one on here with any credible experience or information but that they’ve read a couple news articles

Antog94 · 11/02/2023 23:38

What is your opinion based on? What experience ?? What?? So yes some people are like that I’m not a cardboard gangster I’ve had bull breeds in my family since a child and now I have two bully’s and two kids and honestly they are so soft and gentle it’s incredible

Palmfrond · 13/02/2023 20:04

@Antog94 yuh-huh

Great dog and family dog. I have owned all kinds of dogs and the small fluffy ones are the ones you have to keep your eye on. Loyalties intelligence and nothing but care and love these dogs own. Such a shame there physical appearance is abuse by a small minority of owners who use and abuse these dogs for there own needs. Doesn’t help the media pushing a load of misinformation that these dogs are bread to be aggressive they can just turn. Each dog is individual and you can’t generalise a whole bread in the same way you can’t do this with a race of person. My xl bully does not have a bite in him a true loving giant. If you gonna listen to anyone about any subject don’t let it be the media as there out to create false narratives. Ban the owners as they are the source of the problem.

Wideawakeandconfused · 28/08/2023 07:46

@Luke987 you say your dog has no bite in him…all dog have a bite in them. I have three and would never trust them 100%. Any responsible owner knows and respects this.

RamblingRosieLee · 28/08/2023 07:50

It's been well established now by dog breeders, dog behaviourists and trainers that breeds such as the xl bully: have an inbuilt prey urge.

No one can train that out of them.

The wrong movement at the wrong moment and wham.
Human dead or mimed for life in moments.

I saw one yesterday, it was being walked by a swaggering young chap and young girl with pram.

RamblingRosieLee · 28/08/2023 07:53

@Wideawakeandconfused

We had the most beautiful little bichon frieze cross.
Adorable, gorgeous little doggie.

I still never trusted her around dc, absolutely not.

TodayInahurry · 28/08/2023 08:11

I was out walking in our small village with my dog a couple of months ago. There were two men I had never seen before with two of these dogs. I guessed what they were and asked them and said they were XL Bullies.

The dogs were huge, muscular and were looking at mine. If both of these dogs had attacked my dog she would have dead, and probably me as well.

They should not be allowed in the UK, they are used by criminals to ‘enforce’ debts and dog fighting which still goes on

iRun2eatCake · 16/07/2022 22:41

Some of the worst dog injuries l have nursed have been by a labrador and Jack Russell

I was attacked as a child by a spaniel....as were my cousins as our grandparents cared more for the dog...which was then kept on a lead around us at my parents insistence

And yet you're still here to tell the tale ... which I think is the point.

Findingmypast · 28/08/2023 10:15

NAMALT, NAXLBALT. Of course.
But it doesn't solve the problem for the women and children on the receiving end of the others.
