I recently left Special Needs Ed where I worked for nearly 20 years. Still love the kids but disillusioned by the system. Moved into adult social care (Learning disabilities) and have just handed in my notice as after just a few months I realised it absolutely wasn't for me. I'm too young (and broke) to retire!
I'd like a change, but have no idea what. I'm reasonably intelligent I think (have a good degree from the dark ages) but I literally only have skills in Special Ed!
I like people but am not good at chit chat, happy to be alone, love being out doors walking my dog
I think I would love child minding but I have a dog, which while she's great and I have gates up as I care for my baby grandchild 2 days a week, I'm not sure it's fair on her to invade our home with more children even though she's great with kids. I've also thought about dog walking as I have done a lot of behaviour training and think it would suit me well, but am a bit scared of taking the leap to self employed.
I have also thought about call handler jobs.. one of my few skills is that I am calm and articulate, however I'm not sure my typing skills are speedy enough.
I just don't want to sink myself into another job and find I don't enjoy it, as I have a good 13+ years left to state pension age and I need to keep topping up my own. I'm sensible and reliable and reasonably fit (thanks to the dog
) I just need some ideas . I am not suitable for office work as I am a restless person who likes to be on the move all day (which is why adult care does not work for me!)
Any ideas gratefully received!
