Is it legal to post pictures of people on social media?

My 14 year old DD has just shown me tiktok accounts of “Prettiest girl at xxx school” and “Ugliest girl at xxx school”. Luckily she doesn’t feature in either account which she was worried about as she has been severely bullied this year, but I’m horrified for the girls that are shown. If I report this is there anything that can be done or can these pictures just be put up there and that’s it?

Anyone know if they’ll be able to trace who’s setting up these accounts or is that impossible?

Definitely report it to the school PDQ.

Yes report to the school. The school should be able to request TikTok to take down the pictures/posts and suspend the account. Posting pictures isn’t illegal, it’s the nature of the commentary that makes it malicious communication/online bullying. The school may even refer to police for further action.

Yeah I will. They’ll have to do their own investigation though because DD doesn’t want any part in it - one of the reasons she got bullied was because she was a “snitch” when one of the girls bought alcohol to school.

Yes, you can anonymously report. It would be best to keep DD out of it, I agree.
