Hidden gem beaches in the North of England?

Fancying a day at the coast this weekend, but would like to explore somewhere beautiful that won't necessarily be heaving in the hot weather.

We're near Leeds, so can travel east or west.

Where will fill our hearts with joy? And not be too rammed? 😎

If you don't mind a steep walk down and back up come east and try either Cayton Bay or Hunmanby Gap beaches. Not much there in terms of facilities and not very easy to get to but that's why they won't be rammed. I can't promise the A64 won't be hell of course!

Ooh, thank you!

You could be right about the A64 though - it'll probably be awful.

Maybe further NE is a more sensible plan!

The less busy beaches will be Cayton Bay, Hunmanby Gap, Sandsend and North Landing.

Sands end will be rammed!

Think you want some where none traditional like Redcar or Marske

Whiskeypowers · 16/07/2022 06:44

How far are you willing to travel?

QuebecBagnet · 16/07/2022 06:55

Mog’s Eye never gets rammed.

Saltburn is probably the quickest to get to from Leeds because you avoid the A64.

Go early whatever you do, because parking. Seaton Carew is interesting in there's a nice beach, play areas, fish and chips, cheap parking and there's a nature reserve on the road in.

But on the skyline you can see all the local chemical plants and hartlepool nuclear power station.

But just about everywhere will be heaving even if you find somewhere quieter than driving to Scarborough.
