As the title says!

I really like her. She's straight-talking, has had a real job, isn't slagging everyone else off, and has clearly worked for everything she has.

The only downside for me would be her lack of politics experience. But I'm sure she could hire the right people to help her if she became PM.

TT doesn't seem to actually have any policy ideas, and
is repeating "clean start" until want to shake him
PM, well I don't trust her and she may have backed women in the trans debate but no one who mattered took any notice of her, she couldn't make her Civil Servants go with her, so she'll be no good.
RS, hmmmm.
LT, I'd give her a chance.
KB I quite like.
Truss and Sunak have refused to debate further because they've noticed (!) that all they're doing is giving some relatively unknowns a bigger platform.

Jux · 18/07/2022 15:41

OK, maybe I like KBB a bit less now. She's quite convincing on the surface though isn't she?

Hellsbe · 18/07/2022 15:52

She’s stupid and vindictive. A very dangerous combination!

WithAnXXHere · 18/07/2022 18:55

Why are people calling her stupid? Look at her CV, she's clearly not!

Blossomtoes · 18/07/2022 19:09

No, she’s not stupid. Which makes her even more dangerous. She’s a nasty piece of work.

QuebecBagnet · 19/07/2022 07:10

I’m reading conflicting stuff about her background. One that she’s privileged and went to private school. The other that she was dirt poor in Nigeria , no electricity at times and getting water from a bucket (this second view was quoting her).

Is she over exaggerating her “poorness “. I lived in Uganda for a while and at times nobody had electricity even if you were wealthy because the power supply was just unreliable. Didn’t make us poor.

KatharineofAragon · 19/07/2022 07:16

Are there NO candidates who seem even remotely a good choice? It seems not. They all sound worse than Boris.

Yeah, no electricity "at times" means they did have electricity at other times, ie were connected to the grid, it's just that there were black-outs.

So, like the UK in the 1970s power cuts. Affected both rich and poor.

Possibly the same for water shortages or non-availability when pumps stop during power cuts.

Sounds like she's playing the Four Yorkshiremen.

She opposed Net Zero until yesterday, then she changed her tune because she realised a 40 degree heat wave was not a good time to be ambivalent about climate change. Tells you all you need to know.

VeryQuaintIrene · 19/07/2022 09:48

Ghastly. No thanks.

She’s just changed her mind again. 😂

Absolutely true. She is a most unpleasant character and does have a huge chip on her shoulder.

Boris was an arsehole, a clown and he had to go. However, if Kemi were to get in then I think many of us would be almost wishing to have him back, hard though that may seem to imagine. There would be no lighter moments with Kemi, just austerity, meanness, and chopping and changing on climate change as it suits her.

I hope she goes out of the contest today. I hope not to see her in the final two because far too many of the public who you would think of as normally left leaning suddenly seem to like her. Bizarre. At least most of them won't get to vote unless they are Conservative Party members.

At the moment I just want anyone but Kemi. She isn't even that experienced in government. She only entered Parliament in 2017 - as MP for my constituency. I much preferred our old MP even though I am not a Conservative voter. He retired though after about 25 years in the job and is now in the House of Lords. He was a popular and good constituency MP, whereas Kemi rubs a lot of people up the wrong way.

Anothernamechangeplease · 19/07/2022 11:22

She's a very good communicator and she came across well in the debates. I'm sure she is more competent than many.

Unfortunately, she's incredibly right wing, and as such, I could never wish her into the position of PM. That would be a disaster!

FridayiminlovewithRobertSmith · 19/07/2022 12:09

Someone said “left leaning” people like her. She’s been endorsed by Britain First! Who have encouraged their membership to join the Conservatives so they can vote in the leadership election.

How does that work?

Don’t you need to be a member for three months before getting a vote

lookthisway · 19/07/2022 12:17

She is a nasty piece of work. I am not impressed by any of the candidates and would prefer a general election at this point. I want a PM and Government that are grown-ups, I don't even have to agree with them but I want to believe that they have read their briefs and take their jobs seriously. Is that too much to ask?

Nipplestoyou · 19/07/2022 12:20

Many joined up in order to vote for Boris in 2019

So encouraging people to join to vote for Kemi now as in pp is pointless

MegCleary · 19/07/2022 12:29

Just popping on to say she’s a lunatic

Blossomtoes · 19/07/2022 12:30

They’ve already joined Marsha. This bit’s about them telling their members who to vote for.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant that many are already members, because they joined three years ago.

gryilla · 19/07/2022 12:43

I think Kemi is intelligent, competent and well-spoken, but still a little underexperienced and idealistic. I hope she gets a senior role and continued mentorship but keeps her vision (even if she may have to learn to moderate some parts of it).

I don't think she's ever pretended to be from some impoverished background, but she has lived in the real world and not had a completely sheltered life like some in Westminster. Having power cuts in Africa doesn't indicate grinding poverty but it's a reality in a world that doesn't have stable and secure power generation/distribution, for example. You see first-hand the way you constantly have to navigate logistics that XR types just handwave away. It just gives you a life worldview which is very practical and aware that every decision has a trade-off, which I see strongly in a lot of her positions.

She's clearly not left-wing but I don't see this as a negative for someone running to be Conservative Party leader...! Not sure why everyone is expecting her to be.

Spudina · 19/07/2022 12:50

On today of all days (the hottest day ever recorded on the UK) we shouldn’t be thinking a climate denier is fit to run the country.

FridayiminlovewithRobertSmith · 19/07/2022 13:04

@MarshaBradyo I’m not a spokesperson or “strategist” for Britain First. Just relaying what they have said.
