What do you think of Kemi Badenoch?

As the title says!

I really like her. She's straight-talking, has had a real job, isn't slagging everyone else off, and has clearly worked for everything she has.

The only downside for me would be her lack of politics experience. But I'm sure she could hire the right people to help her if she became PM.

That was Penny Mordaunt.

That sounds like you're complaining that it's one rule for white people and another for black people. But that would only be true if it was the same group of people making a judgment.

Badenoch doesn't really believe that racism exists, so she's quite happy to believe that a white person doesn't see colour.

Many black people have found that white people saying "I don't see colour" actually means " I've never thought about issues of racial discrimination because they don't seem to affect me so they don't actually exist".

It's possible that Badenoch has been somewhat cushioned from the worst experience of racism by her middle class upbringing and academic ability. But I think many black people would disagree with her.

This. Well said.

She's awful. She's my MP too, more's the pity.

She wants to cut schools' non-existent budgets still further and will remove staff who support those with SEN because they are superfluous.

Why the fuck are there multiple threads daily on here singing her praises? I've always found MN to be slightly left leaning. Kemi Badenoch is very right leaning but people seem to be trumpeting about her as though she is the eighth wonder of the world. It's bizarre.

Mine too - we must be neighbours.

Can't stand the women, her voting record is awful.

Those complaining that she's too "right wing"...

Well yes, she is, and the right wing is rising, and why do you think that is? Why can't the likes of Labour win elections?

I'll tell you why, because the left has been silencing, ignoring, and arresting anyone who criticises them. They have alienated most of their voters based on stupid arguments about penises!

Kemi shouldn't be our best choice, but right now, there's no other choice!

"Kemi shouldn't be our best choice, but right now, there's no other choice!" is a direct reflection on the lack of talent and trust within the Tory Party. No amount of handwaving about other parties can disguise that.

If you say the right wing is rising, would you like to explain why the Tory Party remains unable to field a single candidate you judge to be better than Badenoch?

I think she's awful and deluded if she thinks she's got a chance of winning. A second rate Candice Owens.

The right wing is rising

If only... At present the tories seem to be straining every sinew to make themselves totally unelectable to actual conservative voters.

Theworldisfullofgs · 15/07/2022 16:38

Awful. She's my sisters MP. She's deeply unimpressive as an MP.
She's incredibly right wing and generally doesn't have a clue.

Who is ever happy with their MP?

My ex boss was from Witney, Cameron's constituency. He hated Cameron as did everyone he knew. Said he was a totally useless, lazy sinecure seeker and far worse..

itsgettingweird · 15/07/2022 14:13

Did she really lady?

Now that's very interesting because if a white person says that they are accused of being racist.

I get the wording isn't great but we all know what is meant by it.

You can be a poc and have bad politics and internalised racism

PerkingFaintly · 15/07/2022 17:15

Sinecure seeker sounds exactly right.

For the last decade+, with the honourable exception of Theresa May (whose politics I abhor but whose sense of service I can at least admire), we have been ruled over by Tory Prime Ministers who wanted the job title, not the job.

Someone described it perfectly on another thread as people who see the Premiership of the UK as just a notch on their CV – and not even the most prestigious notch at that.

Then they move onto the real jobs and money.

MotherOfRatios · 15/07/2022 17:16

LittlePearl · 15/07/2022 15:32

I find her intriguing. She's articulate, intelligent, and comes across as far more human than the other candidates.

I have never voted Conservative and am definitely left of centre so her politics are very different from mine, but listening to the LBC interview yesterday I thought she gave a fair defence of her position and acquitted herself well.

Right wing or not, I'd love to see a young black woman in the top job. Better her than Liz Truss.

It's not a victory when she would actively harm people that look like her

The left have had no power for a long time. It's the Tory right whose policies are fucking the country.

BingoBungle · 15/07/2022 17:24

Like Priti Patel, she’s a dangerous extremist whose sex and skin colour is deliberately being used by far Right Tories to deflect criticism from inhumane policies that disproportionately affect women and POC.

FullHousehere · 15/07/2022 17:50

She's basically Katie Hopkins

"internalised racism" How horribly f*ing patronising.

A black person can't have conservative views without people like you accusing them of intellectual feebleness, gullibility and not knowing their own minds?

What you really dislike is them getting all uppity by going with whatever politics they feel represents their values and their best interests and not appreciating who their true masters are.

You ought to be ashamed. I bet you don't though!

Sugerfree · 15/07/2022 18:10

"sex and skin colour is deliberately being used by far Right Tories"

I agree, and she's clearly too stupid not to see it. I mean who cares about her political philosophy, her views, her life experiences? Her true master's the left. She's just being stubborn not giving in to it.

I suggest it's off to the gulag for reeducation for her , come the glorious day.

lifeturnsonadime · 15/07/2022 18:11

Who is ever happy with their MP?

I was extremely happy with my last MP who really went above and beyond to help our family when we had issues with the SEN school system.

Sadly she had her whip removed in 2019 for not backing Brexit and Boris. She was a really decent egg and is a real loss to the Conservative Party.

Our incumbent MP is dreadful. Not present or interested other than for a photo opportunity.

Thank You. I'm shocked by the hubris, arrogance and quite frankly the racism of suggesting a POC should only be allowed to hold certain views solely based on the colour of their skin.

I think their real fear is knowing that a brilliant young woman taking the conservative fight out to the electorate and in doing so reconnecting her party with the true notion of Conservatism, would bring about another Tory landslide.

The colour of her skin as academic and she doesn't play on it. That's her true crime, in their eyes.

lifeturnsonadime · 15/07/2022 18:36

So Sugarfree do you think that cutting spending in education will be a popular move amongst Conservative Party Members?

Spending cuts are no doubt necessary, but cutting in education is so backward thinking. I can't see how any progressive party or politician could think that reducing education and employment prospects for our children is a good idea.

And it will disproportionately impact the poor and those with special educational needs.

How on earth anyone can applaud a woman who says that this is their intention I have no idea.

That's all fair enough stuff to debate. Personally, I think so, yes. "reducing education"

What she said was: "Concentrating on effective whole class teaching of rigorous subjects rather than allocating tight resources to superfluous support staff and peripheral activities" It seems to me she wants to concentrate on what she sees as vital education. I think that's something most people would agree with.

But saying she can only have conservative views by being not as informed and socially/politically aware as certain leftist mumsnet posters are, is a disgusting, patronising, racist thing to say. Do you agree?

Blossomtoes · 15/07/2022 19:06

TheLeadbetterLife · 15/07/2022 14:00

Apparently she's just a stalking horse for Rishi Sunak, probably not worth thinking about her as a serious contender.

I thought it was Truss.

Babalugats · 15/07/2022 19:27

The debates on TV will make or break Kemi .
