Maybe I'm staying the obvious but an umbrella works well as a sunshade and really makes a big difference to your comfort levels walking from point A to point B. Also great if you're carrying a little one and want to protect them from the direct sunlight.

Yes, you often see an umbrella doubling as a parasol in hotter countries - I’ve often seen it in SE Asia.
