How hot will trains be next week?

I need to go on a long train journey next week and I'm concerned about melting.
A quick Google doesn't tell me how many trains are air-conditioned. Will I melt?

Are you made of chocolate? If yes then you may melt.

Most cross county trains are air conditioned and most commuter trains are not.

Lochnessgiraffe · 15/07/2022 08:18

Part of my journey is cross country so that's good to know thanks

It could take ages to get there as they will slow them down because of buckling rail tracks so could throw your timings out. I'm sure most trains have some sort of air conditioning while they are moving as it always seems a problem if they break down that it goes off

Devils1vy · 15/07/2022 08:23

Accept now that you cannot win. You will either freeze in summer clothes and ridiculous air con or you will boil in summer clothes and overwhelmingly stuffy carriages.

EntertainingandFactual · 15/07/2022 08:23

As above!
Local trains have windows that open and no air con.
Cross country trains have windows that are sealed shut and therefore have climate control.

I hope it doesn't take ages it's already a 4.5 hour journey. Maybe I'll look at the ones with least changes then.

Most trains have air con these days but it depends on the route and the operator.

User135644 · 15/07/2022 08:35

The main problem will be that hot weather can damage the track/overhead lines and massively disrupt your journey.

Yes it was on the news earlier in the week about slowing trains down, I think they did it to some lines then, 20mph and 50mph were mentioned.

Depends if the air con is working.

They don't run cross country trains without working air con

Yodaisawally · 15/07/2022 10:12

I've been on Virgin London to Manchester without air con plenty of times.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 15/07/2022 11:49

My commuter trains are always hotter than Hades (no air con, small windows that people keep closing). Very unpleasant. I hope you have air con on your trains, OP.

PaperTyger · 15/07/2022 12:30

Loving the faith people have in air con.

I've never been pleasantly cooled on a train at all. Can't open window either
