Universal credit confusion

Sorry if I’ve posted in the wrong topic…
I’ve tried looking online and can’t find my answer!

so, I currently claim universal credit to help with housing costs ect, (single) if I was to move in with a partner, who isn’t on UC, I then have to make a joint claim right? Do you still have to wait 5 weeks again after you’ve made a joint claim? Or will my entitlement just automatically change over for the following month? I usually receive UC 2nd of each month we will be moving in together the 31st, UC doesn’t let me put a date in the future? So will The payment on the 2nd just automatically adjust? Sorry if im not making sense! 🤣

They'll assess if you're still entitled to UC based on your new joint circumstances.

Does your partner already have their own UC claim? You'll need a linking code to enter on their account. You should do this on the day you become a joint household.

You need to enter your new housing costs and have them verified within your first joint assessment period if you want them paid on the next payment day.

No. You are entitled to payment up to the 2nd as it is for the assessment period that ended for previous months. 25th or 26th of previous month. Check your statements for your assessment periods

After you’ve had that payment report the change from 31st. Your partner will need to start their claim and put in a linking code generated from your change. Your payment the following 2nd will then include both your circumstances.

Thank you,
im just worried I’ll receive the payment on the 2nd then if I did the change then, then have to wait 5 weeks for another payment as he will be a new claim

Does partner work? Do you know if will still be entitled?

Calmmedownn · 14/07/2022 23:23

@CornishTiger he does but rent is so expensive here. On entitled to it says I’m still entitled with his income ect, not sure if it’s accurate?

The housing costs element will depend on your local housing allowance and your age.

If you're under 35 you may receive less as it is expected that you can rent a room in a 'house share'.
