Japanese futon/floor mattress

Not sure this is the right place but for reasons to do with an elderly dog with a tendency to injure herself, I need to sleep downstairs.

I have been making do with some cushions and duvets but as the situation may go on for a while, I was thinking futon. I'd like to be able to roll it up in the daytime and it has to be on the floor, as I can't have her leaping on and off things. It's proving quite good for my back too.

Where's the best place to get a Japanese futon?

She was crate-trained but this is me being soft, rather than her being difficult.

I had my last one from the Natural Bed Company in Sheffield (about 10-12 years ago).

They are quite unwieldy, mind, unless they are thin in which case not very comfortable for more than occasional use! Have a look to see if any come with handles (or they could add them).

Alternatively, pop along to the Camping threads to ask about self-inflating mattresses (SIMs).

Is another option steps for the dog so she can safely join you?

I used to have a Futon company one which was really comfy - it was a basic frame but i paid extra for a better mattress

I have no idea but you sound like the loveliest dog owner in the world. This actually made me a bit teary - clearly need to get a life.

Aw, thanks, I was feeling a bit tired & a tad depressed & this has cheered me up lots.

Plus set me off too a bit, I love my dogs & get a bit of grief about being soft but she dislocates her knee & it's like roulette when she leaps off things...

I had one from the Sheffield futon company too. I'd say they're ok if you like a really, really firm mattress!
I'd spend the money on a zed bed or some food camping mattresses.
I cope with a self inflating one and a couple of roll up foam ones when I camp.

Hope your dog appreciates you!

She leaps off the bed at 6am or splats & slides off if she doesn't make it when trying to jump up. I've got a reasonably high bed.

15yo terrier, very brave/reckless.

I was thinking cotton mattress, rather than a sim but it's a good option, due to age & temp control.
