Hello just wondering has anyone had anything similar happen. so I have had a few kidney infections and utis the past few months each time now I go to the Dr's with symptoms and feeling unwell they test my urine and it shows there is protein and leukocytes in it which you would assume a infection as I do have some symptoms also but when it then gets send of to the lab it comes back clear this isn't the 1st time this has happened and I don't think my dr believes me much and thinks there is nothing wrong but how come it is showing protein and leukocytes in the dip test at drs but clear in the lab when send of

Are there nitrites in your urine?
How much protein? Trace?
What are your symptoms?

Am not to sure as I was just told that there is protein and leukocytes in my urine so it's send of to the lab I get pain on my left side travelling around to the front a slow stream of urine and painful abs and loss of appetite I don't get a fever or burning when I pass urine never do with any infections usually just find it strange that each time I show symptoms it picks up infection but lab says it's clear

MSU's only screen for common pathogens, you may have a more unique one. Or your symptoms are caused by something else. I've heard MSU's don't always pick up kidney/bladder infections but don't know how true this is.

Have you had blood tests? Keep going back to GP with symptoms. Hopefully they can refer to renal at your local hosp for further investigation/bladder scan.

Urine dipstick and culture tests are notoriously unreliable. The NHS website even recognises this, but good luck getting the doctor to treat you. If you have uti symptoms you likely have a uti. You need to be assertive and push for antibiotics otherwise you arevat risk of an embedded uti. If they really won't treat you consider going to Prof Malone-Lees team at Harley Street.

Also don't allow anyone to fob you off with an IC diagnosis.

Thank you it's just quiet confusing as I show symptoms and feel unwell then when they dip urine it shows a infection but then send it to the lab and they say its clear and my bloods had been clear but I feel unwell since my csection 8months ago I have had nothing but problems I had kidney failure after it and all was a scary time and I had never been to the Dr's for years before it and now am just always at them as something isn't right
