It looks red towards the back but would you say this is normal? Would be very grateful if you could compare your own throat for me, thankyou.

Your gland looks swollen on the left hand side. But Im not a Dr.

Red and your left tonsil is swollen

Anxiernie · 13/07/2022 20:14

I'll save you the pleasure of putting a current photo of mine up since I have severe tonsillitis 🤣 it doesn't look abnormal to me, maybe slightly swollen? Is it sore?

I'm having a flipping nightmare with my throat. I saw an ENT last year as I was having tightening around my vocal chords with sudden voice loss, had a camera down up my nose and diagnosed with muscle tension dysphonia. I've had SLT which has helped.

The last week my throat has felt awful, really sore, I feel nauseous and I've got a horrible taste in my mouth. Struggling to talk. I don't know if it's the muscle tension dysphonia or something else.

I've never had a throat swab or antibiotics and I'm just wondering if I need something like that. Just had a look at DH throat and his isn't red at the back like mine.

Yes you need to go to your gp or out of hours tomorrow and see what they say. Likely antibiotics. None of those things are normal for you so go get it sorted. You’ll feel much better after that.

Have you done a covid test op? Mine started with terrible sore throat and awful taste

BertieBotts · 13/07/2022 20:52

Unless it's a reflection, you have a tonsil stone on the left tonsil (as I look at the picture). Horrible things and they will cause the bad taste in your mouth.

The only way I've found to get rid of them is get a pipette (like you would use in a lab) and shoot water at it to dislodge it. I've struggled with them for 20 years and this has been lifechanging.

BertieBotts · 13/07/2022 20:53

(Doesn't explain the rest, sorry. You get them more commonly when there is some kind of bacterial infection, though.)

Thankyou, that's a reflection, I can't see any white on my tonsils.

I have got lots of tiny tiny bumps where the redness is on the M's shape at the back but you can only see them when they catch the light. I dont know if that's normal either.

I hate bothering the GP. I've got a lot going on with my health at the moment, this is just the cherry on the cake!

Bacterial tonsillitis causes pus filled white spots on tonsils, viral usually just swollen.

shreddednips · 13/07/2022 21:47

Do you feel well in yourself, apart from the throat symptoms? I get bacterial tonsillitis very frequently and it always causes white, pus-filled patches and makes me feel very unwell, usually with a fever. Your throat does look red to me though and a bit swollen on one side.

BlueMumDays · 13/07/2022 21:49

I've had covid recently. It started with an awful sore throat and a banging headache. I didn't test positive for several days.
