Are there any dentists here? Wisdom tooth pain that comes and goes

Hi
I have a wisdom tooth that is coming through the gum on my lower right side. It started coming through the gum around a year ago but hasn't fully come out yet.
It causes mild pain and discomfort for around 3-4 days every few months and sometimes earache and a mild sore throat on one side.

I think that may be teething pain but it is strange the it comes and goes every few months. Does anyone know what could be causing this pain to come and go every few months?

I am not a dentist but did suffer with pretty much the same thing with my lower right wisdom tooth for years before I had it out surgically last year after waiting for years due to covid and already lengthy waiting lists.

it might be the case it won't push up anymore. Partially erupted wisdom teeth are very common. Mine was partially erupted for a few years. Food can get stuck under the gum and cause swelling or infection. Little tiny toothbrushes and mouthwash such as corsodyl, oraldene and peroxyl are good - I used to apply around the tooth using the tiny toothbrush. I can't remember what the actual name of the toothbrushes are but you can get them in boots - like a little tiny round brush.

i had two partially erupted wisdom teeth. Only one caused me the problems, the other has not given me any problems. the painful one used to play up a few times a year like you say. the tooth itself wasn't too painful, the gum was mainly tender and just a bit sore. But it was the accompanying headache, ear ache, throat pain and jaw pain

You have my full sympathy. Just make sure that the gum and he flap of gum around it it very clean. I found oraldene worked really well to help any inflammation (can get it in boots). Salt water rinses may help too.

If you want it, it will likely have to be surgical at the hospital but you have to go back to the dentist a certain amount of times before they refer you.

hope it feels better soon. I used to feel a bit ill when I had a flare up too!

hi thank you for the tip about how to brush. I had another impacted wisdom tooth out at the dentist on the other side, but that one had just grown and wasn't causing me any problems but the dentist said I should have it out.

Mine is the same but causes moderate pain every few months. The dental surgery told me the flare ups were infections. I'm waiting for surgery to remove it in hospital as they can't do it at the dental surgery.

I think removal would also be the best option for my tooth

Not a dentist but you need to use a tepe compact tuft brush just for that area alone to keep it nice and clean and also use mouthwash x2 daily or gargle salt water to keep it extra clean.

Had exactly the same thing with one of mine. Turns out it was growing sideways & was pushing against the next tooth so every few months when it tried to move, that was the pain.
i had it removed

@Alsonification did the wisdom tooth damage the next tooth by pushing against it?
