Just worrying a bit! They said all was ok but there are things they can’t check. Does that happen often? I don’t know what im worried about but I am! Just want it all to be over, I’m a worrier.

I guess it depends on what you mean? The 20 week anomaly scan is very in depth. Do you mean there are things that they couldn't visualise so have asked you to come back to have another look? Or are you hoping that they can tell you behavioural issues, essentially something that's not structural?

It's worth noting that scans at 12 and 20 weeks are screening scans, they're not definitive.

The scan is more likely to pick up some conditions than others (e.g it will detect the vast majority of spina bifida cases but will only detect about half of all heart problems).

Nhs information on the scan

I think the more serious the problem, the more likely it is it will be picked up. It’s more a case of ‘we can’t see anything that suggests a problem’ rather than ‘there is definitely no problem’. Although, in the majority of cases, they won’t be a problem.

I had two 20 week scans but they couldn’t take all measurements due to the way the baby was curled up. They said they thought all was ok but couldn’t say definitively.
