End of term exhaustion - is this a thing for other parents?

Just wondered if other parents have a thing around this time of year. End of term exhaustion. The daily grind is tiring and we start oversleeping (accidentally), occasionally being late, basically tired! Do others get the same thing! I'm sure it's a reaction to the daily grind of school run, packed lunches, general organisation and exhaustion. (I'm a LP so probably a bit more stressful compared to some).

Oh god yes. Not helped by the “oh by the way you need PE kit on x y and z day this week, don’t forget to bring extra trousers for forest school on this day, etc etc” emails seeming to ramp up. It feels like some kind of parent test. So so nearly there

BlackeyedSusan · 13/07/2022 12:22

God yes. And it's the added sports days Christmas parties, shows, fayres, trips, leaving assemblies, church services, school plays, concerts, to remember when all you want to do is the basics.

HelloThereObiWan · 13/07/2022 12:25

Yes I'm almost as tired as the kids. As PP mentioned it's all the extra stuff you have to remember this time of year. Bring a PE kit on this day, items for the summer fair on this day, non uniform for that trip, etc etc. Imagine what it's like for the teachers having to organising it all as well!

Glad Im not the only one. I was wondering if I was somehow a failure for failing to make the school run on time each day, and sitting here feeling shattered most mornings!! Other parents seem to manage so well, but I guess having a partner to help with daily life probably helps a bit too. Glad that I'm not exclusively exhausted and it is common among others, at least somewhat.

Hang in there people!!

Yes, and I'm on maternity leave so don't even have to cope with my full time job at the moment. Teachers day, sports day, school trip, voluntary cleaning up the classroom, pta meeting all in the last month not to mention 4 birthday parties next week!!! Shattered doesn't cover it, us and DC1 Confused

Bluevelvetsofa · 13/07/2022 12:43

And people query the length of the holiday!

ladyvimes · 13/07/2022 12:44

I’m a parent and a teacher and am basically walking around in a constant state of confusion and exhaustion at the moment. Too much going on, too hot, kids given up. Literally counting down the minutes til next Friday!

Jackiebrambles · 13/07/2022 12:47

Yes I'm totally shattered as everyone else has said - it's all the extra things to remember plus the heat is oppressive!.

Also at this time of year, the planning out of holiday camps and how we cover the summer holidays as we both work!

Jackiebrambles · 13/07/2022 12:48

My friends with kids at private school have already broken up and one minute I'm jealous that they are all on hols already but then also grateful that at least mine are still in school for a bit longer!

Echobelly · 13/07/2022 13:07

Yup! DS is coming to end of Y6 and told me last week he was a bit overwhelmed by everything, and I told him it was the same for parents! End of term shows, parties, trips - my brain is spinning too!

Eatthecake80 · 13/07/2022 13:17

Yes I’m very looking forward to the school holidays!so sick of the school run!

Julen7 · 13/07/2022 14:50

Yes yes yes (single parent here too). Attended two separate sports days, packed for two residentials and there have been multiple field trips necessitating picking children up from different places at end of school day. Request to visit new classes to look at work books etc., then again to meet next year’s teachers, then again to attend school forum for questionnaire feedback. School fete last week. I feel exhausted and the holidays haven’t even begun.

TheVillageBaker · 13/07/2022 21:40

I am absolutely shattered. I have 3DCs, work in a school and I'm so ready for this term to be over! There have been a lot of tears this week from the children and the adults. I know in our school we've felt like we need to go the extra mile with events and trips because the children missed out on so much during covid. I think we may have gone overboard though!

Plinkyplankyplonk · 13/07/2022 21:45

Yes. My daughter has SEN and is in an SRB. Honestly, she's just had enough and after some big news today about her school, she's just so done in. Hot, bothered, tired, emotional.

So tomorrow she is having a mental health day, we'll take her to the park and river and have a picnic.
