DD is in reception and has a year 6 "buddy" who is finishing next week to start secondary school in the autumn.

She has been a wonderful buddy to my DD. I would like to get her a gift and was thinking that something for her next school would be nice - pens, pad, pencil case etc.

But I'm not set on that idea. I don't know any kids that age so would be grateful for sone ideas. Want to spend £15-£20.

Waterstones voucher ?

Pamper session together ? Nails

Day out ? Trampoline park ? Ice skating ?

Pens/pencil cases would be difficult to get right as it’s such a personal preference and there may be school rules to factor in too.
Have you considered a book? Go Big! - The Survivor’s Guide to Secondary School by Matthew Bruton is really good and would be a good fit.

A day out will involve her parents. Avoid

Exactly. Don't get anything too specific or personal - they won't want it.

Some kind of voucher. And / Or sweets or chocolate. They love sweets!

They'll be delighted with a card too.

An Amazon voucher works well

Would you DD be able to draw a pic of them both and then you have it scanned on a mug or some other personalised item? My DC is leaving Y6, and I asked each child in the class to draw a portrait of themselves. I scanned the pics and had mugs printed. They look ace.

My daughters both received presents from younger pupils when they left school. They were really touched by the personal nature of the drawings on ordinary paper. One little girl had made a wool bracelet with a charm and gave her a bag of sweets as well. I think that something homemade and of almost no value is quite sufficient, it’s the effort that goes into writing a card by a 5 yr old which counted for my girls.
