What soap do you use at the kitchen sink for your hands?

My mum has asked me to get her some hand washing soap for the kitchen. She normally has liquid soap but I have Nesti Dante bar soap. What do you use and what is best avoided? I can't get to anywhere like tkmax or b&m/home bargains but know people often says about soaps from there. It needs to be online or from a small Asda/boots/Superdrug/co-op/pharmacy. Thank you!

We wash our hands in the washbasin in the bathroom, using Oliva olive oil soap or the Dermol 500 pump I get on prescription for dry skin. The kitchen sink is for washing dishes, filling up the watering can, etc. Are we weird?

I was actually talking about washing my hands during food prep etc, but lots of people only have an upstairs hand basin so use their kitchen sink. It's not ideal, but most houses in England aren't ideally built & don't have Utility rooms or down stairs cloakrooms 💁🏻‍♀️

But what do you wash your hands with after handling raw food ect?

Carex Advance with Macadamia oil
It's the only one I use that's never dried my hands out
There's a Shea butter one too
Usually on offer somewhere for £1

dementedpixie · 12/07/2022 21:25

Savers sells a 500ml of the macadamia carex as I've bought it a few times

reluctantbrit · 12/07/2022 21:46

Washing up liquid is poison for my skin. That stuff is designed to break down fat so it will dry out my hands very quickly.

We got the refil-bottles Palmolive Honey and Milk from Tesco and I have reusable pump bottles. We now tried Ecover citrus and orange but I am not a big fan. Method Lavender is the next to try out,

emmathedilemma · 12/07/2022 21:46

Carex or the Aldi fake version

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 12/07/2022 21:49

The ecover lavender one is nice and not too drying.

Bearwiththehairs · 12/07/2022 21:52

Bar of soap in a soap dish as trying to avoid plastic.

Linnet · 12/07/2022 21:59

Dove or Carex whichever is on offer when I buy it.

PutYourBackIntoit · 12/07/2022 22:02

The milkman delivers ours and takes back the old glass soap bottles.

Lekky12 · 12/07/2022 22:03

I have a wanky soap bar mounted to the wall next to the sink. Same as James Martin has in his kitchen. Makes me laugh every time I use it. No plastic and same 'bar' of soap for 1yr now. You can get them on Amazon.

VerbenaGirl · 12/07/2022 22:03

Dove liquid soap.

If you mix water and a tiny bit of soap in a dispenser does it not dilute the preservatives? I could imagine it might go a bit manky after a while?

I use bar soap in the shower but can't imagine having a bar by the kitchen sink - just use an Aldi cheaply.

In what way can't you imagine having bar soap at the sink? I buy hand soap size pieces of olive oil soap or if I can't get them, I chop up a large one. I wouldn't have a large bar. I have an olive wood soap tray with slots, so it drains, doesn't sit getting soggy (bleurgh)

& no small children (or men) making it disgusting 😂. They use the liquid soap, in another sink.

CuriousCatfish · 12/07/2022 22:05

What ever is on offer in Tesco. Unless I'm feeling fancy then I choose a more expensive one.

Welikethemoon · 12/07/2022 22:07

A bar of soap, whatever type is available in tesco at the time, try to pick a plastic free one if possible. Sometimes use a bit of fairy liquid if my hands are really minging though. Why do people think liquid soap is better/more hygienic?

ChickenSandwichandCupofTea · 12/07/2022 22:09

The white moisturising Carex

TheFormidableMrsC · 12/07/2022 23:00

I just use a moisturising antibac one from Aldi . It's a really nice product, about 75p.

2tired2bewitty · 12/07/2022 23:05

Bog standard supermarket own brand liquid soap. I had some carex last time but it didn’t seem to like my south facing windowsill and kind of boiled over/leaked everywhere.

practicepracticepractice · 12/07/2022 23:07

I have a reusable bottle which i top up with a cheap bubble bath liquid. It's got a Waitrose grapefruit flavour at the moment.

I had tried a bar soap but I couldn't get it to lather if my hands were greasy and it went funny.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 12/07/2022 23:09

Fabulosa hand wash for kitchen, cares for the small toilet that the kids mostly use and Baylis and Harding for the big bathroom 😁

Thisbastardcomputer · 12/07/2022 23:10

I get the big bottles from TK Maxx, lovely variety in the shop

ouch321 · 12/07/2022 23:10

Carex or equivalent

ChipsRoastOrBoiled · 12/07/2022 23:12

I use an emollient cream as a soap substitute. An aqueous cream or something like Cetraben. Good for dry skin and easily available in pharmacies and supermarkets.

Lineala · 12/07/2022 23:16

Please reconsider buying liquid soap, it's in single use plastic. Bars of soap are environmentally friendly and last for ages so more cost effective.
