Is today just a write off?

The heat is wreaking havoc in our house. All 3 DC were awake and unsettled at various times in the early hours once again last night. I've been up since 5am with youngest DS. We're lucky to have help with DCs today whilst I WFH.

Unfortunately I literally cannot keep my eyes open at my desk. I'm flitting between minor tasks, putting off the big ones until my brain switches into gear. Coffee isn't really helping, I've tried moving around, having a little nap, but I just feel the same tiredness consuming me!

Does anyone feel the same? How are you keeping productive?

It tried to rain earlier. Have you tried standing outside/ having a cool shower?

EmmaH2022 · 12/07/2022 14:12

Apart from work, I'm wondering the same. I'm going to sign off early and log on again about 10pm. Deadlines are met.

I can't see any chores being done in the sweatbox I live in. The humidity is fierce.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 12/07/2022 14:13

The heat is making me unusually sleepy today. Actually feel better when I go outside, it's quite breezy. So I go out and feed the birds/admire the flowers now and again.

darisdet · 12/07/2022 14:17

I'm working from home. I've had a one hour nap today Blush

stuntbubbles · 12/07/2022 14:18

I’m doing extremely little. Thankfully have nothing urgent on my plate. Yesterday I felt dreadful, thought I had Covid, but when the heat dropped in the evening staged a miraculous recovery. Hopefully the same again today. Not going to try to catch up on anything in the evening when it’s cooler; work can wait. Just in pure survival mode right now – hot and pregnant and headachey.

It's cool and raining here being very productive. I'm very envious of all this heatwave talk. Some of us have to pay good money to get a week of nice weather each year!

Home swap please!

Theoneinthemiddle · 12/07/2022 15:14

Yeah. Go to bed watch Netflix and eat ice creams

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 12/07/2022 15:15

I am not working today. But I am hot , tired and very cross and grouchy. So I’m not doing anything.

emmathedilemma · 12/07/2022 15:19

It's not that hot here but it's currently 24 degrees with all doors and windows open and the breeze we had this morning seems to have died down and the sun is breaking through the cloud so no sign of it getting any cooler. I've hardly achieved anything today. Slept badly, feel groggy and i've got a few big insect bites that are driving me crazy.

Yes! I was up early for work but had to go for a couch nap at 1pm

knackeredagain · 12/07/2022 15:22

Yes, me. Plus there is a strike among the key people needed for me to do my job, so I’m having to find work. The struggle is real.
I can log off at 4pm and skip merrily to the sofa.

onemouseplace · 12/07/2022 15:25

I was only working this morning but was pretty productive whilst I had stuff to do. Been an utter write off since though.

It’s the fact that there is no key up for the next week or so that is worrying me!

wonkylegs · 12/07/2022 15:37

I'm feeling quite smug as I designed and built my new office last year and it's a fab space, thanks to deep overhangs, tiled floors and big opening doors & windows it's a beautiful temperature and is a really good example of design working well and not needing air conditioning. It's also currently powering itself via solar panels.
It was cosy in the winter too so it's a good advert for my architects practice really.
Does mean I have no excuse not to work though.

CharlotteOH · 12/07/2022 15:41

Yep. Yep it is.

Companies didn’t buy air con for offices cos they’re kind, they bought it cos hot humans can’t work.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 12/07/2022 15:43

My spare room doubles up as my ironing room....l honestly planned to iron but the bed looked so comfy l just got in it instead and had an hour. Felt like Goldilocks!!

MrsNyborg · 12/07/2022 18:24

@CharlotteOH Touché!

It has been a bit cooler this afternoon thank goodness. Finally managed to meet my deadlines and looking forward to an early and more settled night fingers crossed.
Next week it's going to be 30 degrees plus where we are (Midlands) so I'll probably be back here moaning again 😜
