Hi everyone I have a bit of a query regarding next of Kins.
basically I have a bad relationship with my parents. I moved out of the area and have joined a new gp practice. My old gp told me that my mother and father were my next of Kins and that I should remove them with my new gp however i called my new gp today and they have no record of next of Kins on my medical record.

do next of Kins renew with a new gp surgery ? Thank you

No, I don't think so but when you registered, didn't you fill out a form - new address, phone etc. You could have changed them then.

Next of kin is a funny one because there's no official one. It's quite ambiguous. Make sure you've one set up on your phone and any forms you have to fill out note down who you want. Ultimately in an emergency when you're incapacitated they'll call whoever they have information for and will do their best for you unless there's a specific decision to be made at which point they might need to find out who your next of kin is and if there's a disagreement about a course of action it might need to go to court. Make sure you have a will if you don't want anything going to them. I can't think of any other reason you'd have a next of kin than those.
