Donkeys years ago, when DD wanted to be Queen of Hearts for costume day, I up-cycled a cute cat outfit she owned. This was a velour leotard and tulle skirt, I first removed the cat tail. I had some red and pink felt (available from art/craft stores or haberdashery shops) and I cut hearts from each in a variety of sizes, with a lot of quite tiny ones. I layered some of them up and stitched them to her leotard and skirt.
I took some playing cards, scanned them into my desktop, played around with them in Word so enlarging the Queen of Hearts, reducing the size of others within the suite and rearranged them in a line before printing them off, cutting around the outline and curving them into a crown shape.
I then took some long lengths of gift curling ribbons and curled them really tightly and attached them to an elastic hair tie and tying them around her bun, they trailed almost to her waist at the back.
Accessory was a silver tray (disposable foiled silver paper plate, the shame) topped off with some tarts and a cardboard cut-out cup of tea. But a wand with a heart and some ribbon would work well.
She wore black leggings and black boots. I didn't bling these up but
All of this was stuff I had in the house, I like to do a bit of crafting. But, you could do wonders with face make-up instead, that's not my forte. And strong paper/card could be used to do the cut out hearts. Look at your cereal boxes in a whole new light. Pink, red or black would all work on a white base. Or, get crayoning. Don't be too fussed about the details, it will look great on stage even if you see flaws up close and personal.
