How much would you expect a new front door to be?

I’ve just had a very reasonable quote for new double glazing, but am reeling at the accompanying cost for a new front door.

Its a bog-standard UPVC front door with a “side light” (fixed window next to the door).

How much would you expect, including fitting?

We paid £900 for a composite front door plus fanlight and etched house number about five years ago.

ticktickticktickBOOM · 11/07/2022 21:17

I need one too and I think it's gonna be about £800 to £1200 😖

Starseeking · 11/07/2022 21:20

About £1,500-£2,000. Front doors are expensive!

I paid £1100 for the same 3 years ago.

SparePantsAndLego · 11/07/2022 21:22

I’d say £1,200

mnahmnah · 11/07/2022 21:22

About £1-1500, depending on style

ineedafairygodmother · 11/07/2022 21:23

Obviously depending where you are...... Composite approx £1000 so UPVC will be slightly cheaper. Side lights are approx £125 +VAT

bellac11 · 11/07/2022 21:23

I know wooden ones that Ive been looking at are about 5k

Depending where you are, probably between 1-3k because they all vary

If its the new type of UPVC its more, also issues around the frame and the side lights add on cost

KnittingNeedles · 11/07/2022 21:23

We have just had a new front door and side panel, new double patio doors at the back and a new door into the garage and for all three it was about £5k. The front door on its own was about £1250.

Composite are about 3k from what Ive seen

Wouldyoubehappy · 11/07/2022 21:24

I was quoted 1600-2k for one. Needless to say i still have my old horrible front door!

GCAcademic · 11/07/2022 21:25

We paid £1500 a couple of years ago, but for a composite door. I’d expect it to be more now.

Pootle40 · 11/07/2022 21:25

We paid 3k for a new front door, it is solid compared to the really cheap upvc the house builder had put in.

catsonahottinroof · 11/07/2022 21:26

I think it's about £700 for the cheapest upvc door, so a bit more, maybe £800, because of the side window.
I know composite doors are approx £1000.

Pootle40 · 11/07/2022 21:26

It was composite, slam lock I should say.

user143677433 · 11/07/2022 21:26

Ah, OK, might be composite I guess. Will check …

I'd say between £1-2k for a decent one, including fitting.
How much were you expecting OP?

TwistedSisters · 11/07/2022 21:30

We've just paid £2k for a composite one , that was including fitting. That was the cheapest of three quotes.

dudsville · 11/07/2022 21:30

All i can say is i was similarly gobsmacked, they are expensive. In the end we went with solid wood made by a local joiner and fitted by the builder don't other jobs for us. We're now changing the back door, which is a more complicated affair, and it's the cost of a fancy holiday, the likes of which we'd dare spend!

FuckingHateRats · 11/07/2022 21:30

We bought a new door last year.

It's solid wood. We designed the stained glass ourselves. It was about £1,100 delivered, then we paid another £300 to have it fitted and painted.

Summersdreaming · 11/07/2022 21:31

£1200-1800. If you've been quoted more, shop around, contact local manufacturers, they will either have fitters or put you in contact with a fitter who should charge between £150-300 depending on the work involved.

user143677433 · 11/07/2022 21:32

OK yes, it’s composite. Like this one.

£3,250!!!

Bloody hell, that's really cheap. We were being quoted about £4k to £7k last year for a wooden door (plus 2 sidelights and a top light). Whereabouts are you? Was that an off the shelf door?

FuckingHateRats · 11/07/2022 21:36

I'm in Edinburgh, but it was made down south. It was a custom glass design of one of the company's standard door options.
