I thought it'd be all over by now. Why's it taking so long?

I expect they are still negotiating film rights and book deals…….

Because the judge heard significant amounts of evidence that he or she will want to give thought to and also has to consider some complex legal arguments - they will review their notes and read the legal authorities they were referred to and then prepare a written judgement. Meantime they will have other cases to hear. That judgement will usually be given to the parties before it is published (only a day or so in advance not weeks or anything like that). In my last civil case we waited 4 or 5 months for the judgement following a three hour hearing with legal argument only.
