Cost of 8 Evoral Sequi patches on prescription £18?!

Posted under “Menopause” but no replies there.

Dr prescribed me these on Friday and I collected them from Tesco pharmacy earlier. Was really really shocked that cost was £18 for 8 patches (4 weeks worth).

The lady on the till said it’s because they are different strengths so it’s like 2 different prescriptions in one. Is that right?!

Am desperate to give them a go so fingers crossed, but am genuinely shocked at the cost. Am going to get a prepayment certificate for next time.

That’s correct, you pay per drug even if they are packed in the same box. Quite a few HRT products are 2 charges.

My go have me 3 months supply, perhaps you could ask for more in the next prescription

ImAvingOops · 10/07/2022 21:37

One month isn't enough to know if HRT will suit you - I think you need a 3 month supply for it to settle.
So unfair that people have to pay for essential long term medication in England

Yep I'm just starting on it and it was bad enough I had to pay once never mind twice! The sales lady checked with the pharmacist when I queried it and she said yes unfortunately they have to charge twice. But if it makes me feel better I don't care about £18. I did get 3 months though and looking it up if it suits us then GP can prescribe a year's worth.

AccountHere · 10/07/2022 21:45

I get 3 months for my £18

LizzieSiddal · 10/07/2022 21:46

I get 3 months worth and one charge,

I don’t understand how you can have two different prescriptions in a patch?

bestbefore · 10/07/2022 21:51

It's oestrogen and progesterone and you get 2 types of patches in one box. Bloody awful you have to pay twice though. Tax on women. Angry

OMG I am so glad I live in Wales!!

RamblingFar · 10/07/2022 21:53

You can prepay for prescriptions. It's roughly £10 a month for unlimited prescriptions. So if you keep getting it prescribed by the month, then it would work out cheaper.

As suggested above - I prepay- (I have migraine meds too so even more worth it).

Thank you for replying. I won’t embarrass myself by going back in with my receipt and querying now!

Much appreciated - but I do think it’s shit!

I've been on it a year. Last time was the only time I've been charged double. I was told it should be two charges because it's 2 drugs but that seems a total piss take to me. I'm going to ask for 6 months worth next time. (I usually get 3 months worth).

Saying that, I would actually pay much more for it if I had to because it's amazing! I get on with it so well and feel the best I've felt for years!

I hope you get on as well with it as I do.
