Food left in car ok to eat?

Stupidly went to the coast today for a walk and lunch after picking up some bits in the supermarket. The bag was left in the hot car for about 4 hours although in the boot and not directly in the sun.

The refrigerated cheese and tomato pizza had slightly melted cheese on it.

Wafer thin ham and pease pudding look ok.

Packet of grated cheese looks ok.

Are these ok to eat do you think? I've cooked the pizza and started eating it before panicking that the melted cheese on it might not be a good sign 😬

Oh and also a pasta bake microwave type meal (cheese and tomato) which I was planning to take to work tomorrow

Definitely not the ham!

As long as it's not raw meat I would probably eat it

No, no raw meat. Just processed wafer thin sandwich ham.

I wouldn’t eat the ham. Wouldn’t worry too much about pizza and cheese, although it might be wise to use it up quickly.

Don’t know about pease pudding, only seen it tinned or home-made … but if it belongs in the fridge, probably wouldn’t eat it.

I'd use the grated cheese tomorrow and throw the rest away.

Discovereads · 10/07/2022 21:35

Nope. Toss the lot. It was 29C here. At 29C outdoors, a closed car boot will reach 49C in 30 minutes. That’s the heat your food has been in for 4hrs when it should have been refrigerated.

Definitely not the ham. The rest is probably ok

We've eaten the pizza now so hopefully I live to tell the tale

I think I'll throw the rest out tbh, not worth the risk.

🤮
Hope it was worth it.

Pizza and cheese would be fine, but I wouldn't eat ham that hadn't been refridgerated for 4 hours, let alone in a very hot car for 4 hours.

@Tequilamockinbird not the ham but the rest is probably fine to eat! My DH accidentally left an oven ready crispy aromatic duck in the leather back seat of car which was parked in the sun for 7 hours last weekend! The car smelled like a Chinese restaurant when we opened the doors which alerted us to the forgotten duck! He then said he was going to eat it when we came home... there was absolutely no way we would have eaten it even if you paid us! Anyway he ate it and was fine surprisingly 🤣
