What do you think of thunderstorms ?

In the UK, we perhaps don't see the same frequency and intensity as in continental Europe but they can still be a spectacle. As a youngster, like many children, I found the sound of thunder quite frightening and my late Mum never got over her dislike of thunderstorms. Now I'm much older and I'm not at all bothered by them but I wouldn't like to be stuck outdoors in the torrential downpours and all hell breaking loose above. From inside, you can appreciate the awesome sight and soundof Mother Nature getting arsey!

The local feral pigeons always seem to know when a storm is brewing. They suddenly take off en masse from the rooftop opposite my home and fly supersonic (or so it appears) to shelter. They are fast fliers anyway but really speed up when the shit is about to hit the fan.

Adore them. I have big windows looking out to the sky, and watching lighting through them is awesome.

Soubriquet · 09/07/2022 19:44

Love them. Especially after a heat wave. So cool and refreshing.

Plus I love watching lightning

ofwarren · 09/07/2022 19:45

Hate them. I don't mind the really heavy rain but the sound of the thunder really scares me.

Love watching them. Spectacular, beautiful display of the raw power of Mother Nature.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/07/2022 19:49

Love them. I wish we could have one tonight - with lashing rain to listen to in bed.
Well, maybe not tonight, since dd and family are camping - Monday night would do.

Pinkflipflop85 · 09/07/2022 19:49

I love them. Always have done.

tobi21 · 09/07/2022 19:49

terrified

Hedgesfullofbirds · 09/07/2022 19:53

They are amazing, awesome, spectacular and don't happen frequently enough for me! Love going out for a walk in thunderstorms and my mum used to tell me that, even as a small child, I used to go out and sing and dance on the lawn when a storm was cracking away😁

Hedgesfullofbirds · 09/07/2022 19:55

The power, the smell of ozone, the refreshing aroma of petricor afterwards and the rain - precious, life giving stuff that it is...

TheMess · 09/07/2022 19:55

Love them - as soon as it gets hot enough for storms, I'm on the Lightning Tracker website, watching the little red circles...

Narcheska · 09/07/2022 19:57

Love them. Have since childhood I’ll often sit and watch the lightning of I get the chance.

if not I love to lie there and listen to the downpour & thunder. It’s sooo relaxing

RoseAndRose · 09/07/2022 19:58

Love them, but do feel slightly scared - that lightning is coming down somewhere

onmywayamarillo · 09/07/2022 19:58

I was born in a huge thunder and lightning storm I love them

iklboo · 09/07/2022 20:00

Absolutely adore them. When DS was little he was in his high chair. The door was open as it was very warm. A sudden storm hit, very close so the thunder was really loud. DS started giggling, clapping his hands & saying 'again' 😄

Tumbleweed101 · 09/07/2022 20:01

Love them. I have views right over the fields to the horizon so have a big sky to watch them and it can be spectacular.

MeanderingGently · 09/07/2022 20:02

I love a good thunderstorm, always have done right from childhood. When I first learned that some people are frightened of storms (perhaps aged 10??) I was incredulous with disbelief, (stories of folk hiding under the stairs as soon as a storm was threatened etc.) I still think a good storm is exciting and worth watching....

user143677433 · 09/07/2022 20:02

Love them!

Although I have just realised that in our new house we will be the tallest structure in the area 😯

Pebbles16 · 09/07/2022 20:05

Love them. They usually turn up when very needed. But my Grandma hated them (turned round mirrors, all electricity had to be off)

Itwasntmeright · 09/07/2022 20:05

Love em.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 09/07/2022 20:06

Love them. Even more so when the power goes out as well ... Not that I've ever been an adult while that's happened so maybe I'd hate it more if it happened now.

But I loved doing things by candlelight. We'd always rock out the boardgames

jamoncrumpets · 09/07/2022 20:06

They give me headaches but I enjoy watching them now. I was petrified as a teenager though.

Thesearmsofmine · 09/07/2022 20:07

I love watching them from in my house, would hate to be outside in one though. We have a brilliant view from our house and can watch them edge closer and closer to us which is quite exciting.

OhTheLeetleHandsAndFeetle · 09/07/2022 20:07

Used to love them. Was caught out on a mountainside by one once and and am now terrified.

WildRosie · 09/07/2022 20:09

Lots of love for a TS, evidently. You can't help but be impressed by the collective massiveness going on; all that heat, light, power and noise. I don't know what domestic pets generally make of all the flashes and bangs but I'm fairly certain our cats and dogs weren't bothered. A different story for livestock in the farmers' fields though. And golfers!

I absolutely love them if I am cooried up inside. We had one relatively recently and I opened the windows so I could hear it better.

i wouldn’t like to be out in one
