What Do You Put In A Really Good Ploughman’s?

I know the basics but wondered what everyone includes?

Really good chutney and grapes and real butter- loads of it !

Crusty Bread
cheese
Grapes
eggs
salad

Don't forget home made coleslaw

Really nice pâte. I do mushroom because I’m vegetarian.

Pickled onions?

Walnut bread, onion chutney, butter, Tickler cheddar

Cheese, crusty bread and butter, pickle, pickled onions, ham, coleslaw. Bit of salad. My local tearoom used to do an amazing one.

Bread, apple, chutney, ham, hunk of cheese, butter, celery, grapes, bit of pork pie and/or boiled egg. Beer or cider.

Most places didnt used to do butter years ago and its probably not reallly needed but I love butter

The ploughmans was an 'invention' in the 70s by the UK cheese board to sell more cheese.

I love a ploughmans

Three cheeses, (cheddar, brie and another ) apple sliced, spring onions and picked onions and gorgeous crusty bread
and if you like them, pork pie with mustard piccalilli

I’ve got provolone and doux de montagne im having a ploughman’s later 🐷

A really good mature cheddar cheese
Chutney / Branston-style pickle / a large pickled onion
Lettuce
An apple

Very good cheese (mature cheddar and Stilton), pork pie, pickled onions, good chutney, grapes, home made coleslaw, crusty bread with salted butter, maybe a slice of naice ham. Dh would say tomatoes but I don't like them.

they are the best because you put all your faves on one plate - no rules !

I'm inclined to think less is more with a ploughman's.
Really good strong cheddar, crusty bread, good chutney and maybe an apple.

I’ll let you know tomorrow OP. We’re doing “Ploughfest” with a group of friends- each bringing what we think should be in a ploughman’s.

This plus maybe a slice of really good ham

Sadly they don’t seem to do them in pubs anymore 😢

Some of the platters described sound very nice but are in truth not really a Ploughman's so much as a Massive Salad.

Good crusty bread. Had a ploughmans at a v expensive pub in cornwall once and the bread was 3 small pieces of foccacia which did not work. Was so hungry afterwards

how disappointing ! needs to be a quarter of a cob loaf with a shiny brown chewy crust (or as a PP said Walnut bread) I hadn’t thought of that

Or an individual baguette !

• proper baked ham, sliced off the bone

Fresh crusty white bread - (no poncey olive or anything else type of bread) - extra mature Cheddar and maybe another quality cheese, good salted butter, good trad-type pickle (Branston Ok with me) pickled onions, salad with tomatoes, cucumber, spring onions, maybe grapes.
