Do you get your boiler serviced annually?

Just that really. If you own your home do you get an annual service?

We didn't last year, just wondering if it's one of those things people never miss like a car service or if people don't bother.

Yes always

chilledbubble · 07/07/2022 21:55

Yes because I'm scared if we don't it might be unsafe and blow up the house

Chanel05 · 07/07/2022 22:02

Yes

TotalRhubarb · 07/07/2022 22:05

Not since we had British Gas in to do one and all the guy did is check some bits over. There was no actual ‘servicing’ in the sense of cleaning or replacing things. Just a check.

We have a CO monitor for safety. And it’s pretty obvious if something goes wrong. So I don’t see the point. Just money wasted.

BotterMon · 07/07/2022 22:08

Yes. Don't have a contract but it's just something we do same as getting chimney swept.

I thought it was a legal requirement and am too scared not to do it in case of fire and insurance not paying out.

DotBall · 07/07/2022 22:09

Yes, for safety reasons. We have a CO monitor but wouldn’t rely on it.
When we moved into our current house the old boiler had never been serviced in 25 years. When opened up the amount of soot inside was frightening. Fair play, after a good clean it went another 15 years before we replaced it.

FurBabyMum02 · 07/07/2022 22:10

I'm pretty sure it invalidates the house insurance if there was a fire and it wasn't serviced up to date so yep every year. But we also have a gas fire and that definitely needs a clean every year so it's easy to get them done together

Frazzled2207 · 07/07/2022 22:11

Yes but clearly not everyone does. Just moved to a house which was built in 2007 and it would appear nobody ever bothered servicing it. Absolutely shocking!

YourLittleSecret · 07/07/2022 22:14

Idk about gas but mine's oil and definitely needs a service.

HappyAsASandboy · 07/07/2022 22:14

Yes, though now every two years because the boiler man says ours is the most efficient oil boiler he's ever serviced!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/07/2022 22:15

Yes, for safety reasons, also so that (we hope) it doesn’t conk out during a cold spell - as happened to us once in December.

megletthesecond · 07/07/2022 22:15

Yes always. Small price to pay to keep it efficient and safe.

sjpkgp1 · 07/07/2022 22:16

We haven't and I have come to regret it, we've got a problem now that more regular servicing would have picked up. Got CO2 monitors etc. But still, new problem is something that "if caught in time"....

MrsPear · 07/07/2022 22:32

I can’t get my head round having a gas boiler and not getting it checked for 25 years. Have you not heard of carbon monoxide poisoning?!

BMW6 · 07/07/2022 22:38

Yes. Ours was supplied and fitted by a local company and there's a 25 year guarantee but only if annual service is kept up. We pay the company £7pm and they do the service every September ready for winter.

Well worth it imo.

Topseyt123 · 07/07/2022 22:44

Yes, we do.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/07/2022 22:50

Yes religiously!

Cheerios257 · 07/07/2022 22:50

dementedpixie · 07/07/2022 21:14

Yes. I have boiler cover with British gas and it offers an annual service as part of it

Same for us!

Mossstitch · 07/07/2022 22:52

Five different houses and never have. One I'm in now was old when I moved in over 10 years ago and never been done by me. I do have carbon monoxide monitor on top of the boiler cupboard but only because had log burner fitted and they said had to have one. I think it's a con

DottyLittleRainbow · 07/07/2022 22:54

Yes always. We had a new boiler about 3yr ago and this keeps the warranty valid, and also makes sure it stays safe. The plumber always spends 1-2hr doing a very thorough check/clean of the boiler. Also in a hard water area here.

DottyLittleRainbow · 07/07/2022 22:58

Just to add that the old boiler when we moved in hadn’t been serviced or maintained - it broke a few months after we moved in when it was a freezing February, I was 10 weeks pregnant and had horrific morning sickness, had no heating or hot water for days. Vowed to always service the new one! We are by no means rich but it’s definitely an essential bill for us, costs £60 once a year so can set aside £5 a month.

HerbErtlinger · 07/07/2022 23:00

Yes because DP is a boiler engineer/specialist. The amount of times he services a boiler and discovers extremely dangerous faults/poor installation genuinely scares me. You only have to have watched the news with two gas explosions this past fortnight to remember that gas heating is to be taken seriously.

Sarah2891 · 07/07/2022 23:16

Absolutely. I think it's foolish not to.

Sarah2891 · 07/07/2022 23:17

Foolish not to ever get it checked I meant to say

RubyJam · 07/07/2022 23:26

No never
lived here 9 years
It still works and we have Co2 alarms etc
Sometimes the pressure drops , I just use the little tap underneath the boiler to repressure it.
