Has anyone used a photo scanning company to digitise old photos?

I have a couple of boxes of old photos and no storage, so am looking at getting these scanned and digitised. There seem to be quite a few companies out there offering their services and they vary quite a lot price wise. I just wondered if anyone had done this and could recommend somewhere?

I had an album of old family pictures scanned at a local photo store, can't remember how much they've charged but it was pretty much the same as for any other scanning, I guess. Plenty of my photos needed a bit of restoration (crooked edges, scratches etc) but I did it on my own in Photoglory. Here is a list of photo restoration software if you need to do some retouching or want to colorize the photos, too.
