So embarrassed. Got confronted today.

Pulled up to park in multi storey, and when I got out of my car this lady comes at me very aggressively! No idea what was happening. Managed to get out of her that I was following her and hand signalling and shouting at her and being very aggressive and that her daughter was a nervous new driver and I was a horrible bitch.

I was actually just singing along to my music, very enthusiastically. I can now see that in a rear view mirror that might look as if I’m shouting and gesturing at the car in front. Lesson learnt!! She was laughing when I explained.

Be wary fellow mumsnetters in case this happens to you!

Echobelly
I once had to reverse back along a narrow country road as there was a car coming. I couldn’t so the lady coming went her way instead looking incredibly pissed off and shaking her head at me. I rolled down the window and apologised as I passed and she glared at me. Got to the school an hour later and she was one of the childminders. She went red and has been so nice to me since!

Ps OP I love it- yay to giving it socks!!!

I had a quite funny/slightly embarrassing car encounter today - I live on a parked-up road without many passing points and another driver kept coming rather than stopping near the end where there are some places to pass (prob not familiar with road). So I had to start reversing, but I am terrible at it, I can never seem to get the car straight and central in the road so I'm always having to adjust so I don't go into parked cars and it takes me ages, plus I get really stressed. Luckily, the other driver was a lady (you can be a bloke would have been a right twat about it) and, noticing I was stuggling, waved at me politely that she'd reverse. And, like it was just falling off a log, she zooms straight back the middle of the road in 2 seconds flat. I am so bad at reversing for any distance! 😳

Ah see the perks of growing up in Cornwall is learning to drive on the back lanes! I am a Jedi at reversing!

🤣 Love this! Although as a nervous driver, it'd probably send my anxiety through the roof if I thought someone was going mad at me in the car behind 🤣 off to Google the song you were singing along to 🤣

Theala · 07/07/2022 19:17

I had a terrifying one a few weeks ago. I overtook a driver who was doing 60k/h on a 90k/h road (in EU, not Uk) As I pulled back into the right lane, he started flashing his headlights at me and beeping his horn.
I thought he was just pissed off that I'd overtaken him and continued on my way. He followed me for 5km, continuing to flash his lights and beeping at me. I was bloody terrified. Rural lanes, so no other cars around.
I eventually got to where I was going, but the people I was meeting hadn't arrived yet. So I stopped and confronted him.
Apparently, he wanted to tell me that my front bumper was damaged and he was worried it might fall off. (My front bumper has been damaged for a while, but it's unshakeable. )
I should have yelled at him (or reported him), but I was so shook that I was just glad to get away safely.

CallOnMe · 07/07/2022 19:17

This has happened to me too!

Most of the music I listen to is rap so it does look like you’re speaking rather than singing.

It was only when I thought I saw a very aggressive man who had it in for me driving behind me and I was genuinely panicking until he drove next to me and I realised he was actually rapping/singing!
I never realised how cringe aggressive it looks!

I still do it now without realising but I try not to when there’s lots of traffic around.
It’s why I love driving on the motorway as you can sing and rap your heart out.

yankeecandlesarebest · 07/07/2022 19:26

I had this too, singing and this young guy with his pregnant gf thought I was saying something to him.
He makes a face and threw his beercan at my car and it hit the side.
Absolutely terrified I drove off fast as I could

yankeecandlesarebest · 07/07/2022 19:26

How did it happen

Ffsmakeitstop · 07/07/2022 19:30

My dd has a very distinctive car and if I'm with her she's asked me not to wave my arms around because apparently it looks like I'm gesticulating at other drivers and they will recognize her car 😂😂 I didn't realise I did that while talking so now I sit on my hands.

Echobelly · 07/07/2022 19:43

@MiniMoosey - one advantage of my street is I've got pretty good at tight parallel parking, but my reversing is still awful..

Echobelly · 07/07/2022 19:48

On misunderstanding and cars, DH likes to sometimes shout (positive) things out of the car at people, like he likes their clothes or their car etc and I have begged him top stop because I have explained: a) a lot of people assume anything shouted from a car is insulting or aggressive without listening to it. Because it usually is. b) Please never shout anything at a woman, if she doesn't hear you properly she'll probably assume you were shouting something lechy, or insulting and will feel threatened. Maybe even if she hears you.

I think he has stopped doing the latter, but still worried one day a some bloke's going to get out of his car and beat him up because he assumes DH was being rude to him.

swimlyn · 07/07/2022 19:48

Too many drivers are 'tipped over the edge' nowadays, by virtually nothing.

Almost always men in my experience, but once I saw a woman decamp and go completely berserk. M3 morning commute. She was kicking cars and screaming.

Seems she forgot about dashcam footage...

Latenightreader · 07/07/2022 19:53

I gave up listening to the Today programme in the car because I used to get so cross I’d have arguments with the radio and was convinced the other drivers would think I had road rage…

LuckySantangelo35 · 07/07/2022 20:03

@MiniMoosey

what Doja cat song was it OP?

MiniMoosey · 07/07/2022 20:04

@LuckySantangelo35 it was either Aint Shit or Woman, we were in slow moving traffic and they both played.

Now I have a new fear of my singing and dancing being caught on someone’s dashcam.
Someone somewhere is watching me dancing around and singing my heart out to some 90’s bops in my car

I was really loudly singing in my car a few years ago and forgot my sun roof was open and everyone could hear me 🤣

I once went to a christmas drink after an adult masters swimming club I was part of. I had a few plain tonic waters and left about 10.30 for my drive home.

I drove out of the pub listening and singing along at the top of my voice to Gabrielle's Rise.

Very soon I looked in my mirror to see blue flashing lights. The police car stopped me, asked if I'd been drinking and I replied just tonic water and chlorine! Not happy with me, I was then breathalysed! Negative obvs

I hadn't put two and two together at that point but I'm sure now they'd been watching from the pub car park. I don't blame them thinking they'd got a for certain positive!

LidlCinnamonBun · 07/07/2022 20:51

Negative for drunk driving.
Positive for awful singing.

Kezzie200 · 07/07/2022 20:55

Yes! Very awful!

madasawethen · 07/07/2022 20:56

Next time I'm out, it's Baby Shark.

DuneFan · 07/07/2022 21:08

I love a good gospel singalong with available arms reaching to heaven. Dc egg me on.

Thought I'd learnt my lesson the day my boss came up behind me on the way to work but no - just can't stop myself. Also occasionally spot other drivers laughing at me . . .

caoraich · 07/07/2022 21:35

I once got breathalysed by the police, I was parked up sitting in the driver seat at about 1am waiting to collect my boyfriend from work in an A&E dept. I had recently purchased the guardians of the galaxy soundtrack and was having a proper sing and dance to Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede 😂
I think they mainly enjoyed getting to interact with someone who wasn't an actual drunk hanging about outside A&E...

IsThisReallyAcceptable · 07/07/2022 21:53

You need to be keeping your hands on the wheel, as funny as it is, it's really dangerous, you can't possibly have been able to react as fast as if you weren't singing and dancing.
