I'm sorry, but what the fuck!
They've blocked the vonc? We are supposed to live in a democracy for fucks sake, how is preventing the system from working democratic?
I'm actually beginning to get scared now of where this is going.
Look at Sri Lanka as an example of when the people wake up to what's happening.
The tories think they can do whatever the fuck they like with no repercussions and the current evidence is saying they are right.

It fucking stinks!

Absolutely.

I've said before on these threads it surprises me how much Johnson publicly demonises Putin whilst starting at his low level tactics before he became the leader he is today.

balalake · 12/07/2022 19:44

I hope that the opposition parties remember what has happened and make an issue of it in 2024.

Badenoch

"We must require schools to concentrate on effective whole-class teaching of rigorous subjects rather than allocating tight resources to superfluous support staff and peripheral activities."

Nice, haven't they done enough damage to education in the last 12 years

So children who might need extra support should be left to sink or swim? How is that levelling up?

This has upset me more than anything that the other candidates have come out with. What a vile individual she must be.

the80sweregreat · 12/07/2022 20:09

Kemi will appeal to certain voters who believe that teachers and education is only any good if your paying for it for your offspring and not a burden on the tax payers.
I've met people like this.

ClaudineClare · 12/07/2022 20:10

I think it will be Sunak and Mordaunt in the final two, with Mordaunt to win.

I agree

Notonthestairs · 12/07/2022 20:22

Small group work isn't only for those struggling with subjects.

But yeah it looks to me that Kemi is undermining those students that need additional - apparently superfluous- support.

All children will have to learn the same curriculum at the same pace 🙄 (but not MPs children who will be safely tucked away in more flexible private education).

DuncinToffee · 12/07/2022 20:40

I don't have any more info on what she meant exactly by it. It came from this thread covering her speech

Yes it isn't only for the ones who are struggling. The most academic one of my kids was taken out of class for half a day a week for some different work. Don't know how to properly describe it harder? More interesting? More challenging? I'm sure a teacher would have a proper definition but it was the highlight of the week. I think sometimes kids who are more academic can get bored and switch off and they also need some support.

WaitroseWoman · 12/07/2022 20:45

We last voted for our government in 2019. It pains me that Tory Party members, a tiny and unrepresentative percentage of our population, and three years on from that, are going to decide who our PM will be.

From Ben Quinn:
'Tory faithful are male and grey but choice of leader is less clear cut
Analysis: Research indicates party members are over 60, male and white, yet do not like the same candidates

So who are the Tory faithful? In contrast to the wider population, research indicates more than half are aged over 60, and they tend to be male residents of southern England. They are overwhelmingly white – at 97% – although ethnic minorities remain heavily underrepresented across all UK political parties.

It is not entirely clear how many members there are. While just under 154,500 were eligible to vote in the last leadership election, sources at Conservative headquarters would only say there would be more this time.'

Notonthestairs · 12/07/2022 18:52

What does that even mean? Who are the superfluous staff?

Nannys. She is trying to differentiate herself from JRM.

the80sweregreat · 12/07/2022 20:49

Cutting back on TAs so she can give tax breaks to the rich.

itsgettingweird · 12/07/2022 21:22

TAs are already cut back due to budgets.

That's alongside more children with SEND being placed inappropriately in MS due to cuts to education means more disruption to everyone's education and more teachers leaving.

We have a recruitment and retention problem. The answer isn't to make the job harder (impossible) both physically and emotionally (because teachers are fully aware they can't support the needs of children with send alongside 29 others - usually it's 2-4 with send as well)

I don't think Kemi knows what she's talking about. Differentiation is for all levels of ability

DuncinToffee · 12/07/2022 21:37

Is Gove backing Badenoch?

itsgettingweird · 12/07/2022 21:42

I'm loving Bravermans FB page.

Comments range from

"You're food and should rule the world" (clearly not quite but you get the jist!)

To people actually questioning her.

My favourite is the poster who keeps asking why she wants to cut welfare (quotes stats about how most people it's WTC and due to cost of living and wages) and yet she happily claimed over 4k for her second home!!!

Yes.

Or last time I looked

the80sweregreat · 12/07/2022 21:46

This is the problem, they moan about people on benefits , but quick to claim every expense going. I'm
Glad people can call them out on it

Piggywaspushed · 12/07/2022 22:06

Kemi could suggest funding schools properly, of course...

The bit about unis is a clear swipe at arts subjects. No degrees actually diminish job prospects!

tobee · 12/07/2022 22:57

I had an argument on The Times comments a while back where I was informed by another reader that it was good that degrees should be extremely expensive because it filtered out those doing what she deemed worthless degrees. You should only do ones that can give you a high paying job apparently. She didn't seemed to have heard of transferable skills. Presumably she thought it would be a great world if the only people at university were lawyers and accountants. Obviously it's fine that the beloved criminal dictator did Classics at Oxford? Not exactly a vocational degree.

Also, it amused me greatly because they assumed from my first name that I was of a certain age demographic and was in favour of more university places and was after an education paid for by loan I'd never be able to pay back. Cheesed her off massively when I told her I was ancient and my degree was before fees came in and I even got a grant!

DowningStreetParty · 12/07/2022 23:39

Great work by Chris Bryant.

Quia · 13/07/2022 00:32

I suspect Badenoch's concept of unnecessary peripheral activities in school includes fluffy stuff like drama, music, after school clubs - basically all the enrichment stuff which gives children a well-rounded education and helps motivate them to enjoy school. After all, we must leave enough time for learning imperial weights and measures and Latin, mustn't we?

Tory vice-chair Kemi Badenoch admits hacking Labour MP's website
The Saffron Walden MP, a rising star, is apologising for accessing the website and changing it to "say nice things about Tories".

Ironic that those subjects are often what people who send their kids to private school pay for that provision. But not for the little people eh?
