What small treats do I want?

A very self indulgent post here: I am at home with Covid and feel really pretty dreadful. I am meant to be going on holiday this weekend and the likelihood is now basically nil. I have had a really rough 2 years since COVID started and am devastated to be missing out.

Thankfully the holiday is insured and I only have a very small excess so I will be getting most of the money back. But that doesn't change the fact that I had been really looking forward to it! I totally recognise that others may be in home situations where holidays aren't possible and I'm aware being in a position where I lose a holiday makes me lucky in many ways.

However, if anyone has any small things they would suggest which might improve my next week or so while I get better, I would be extremely grateful. I have so enjoyed reading and contributing to previous threads about "what one thing would you buy if" and "which one items changed your life" that if anyone feels like indulging my "what small indulgences do I want" question and brightening my days on the sofa I would be very pleased.

One thing I will be doing is getting some audiobooks from my library app so I can listen with my eyes shut until my blinding headache subsides!

Book an online shop with some nice food on it. Treat yourself to items you normally wouldn't get because it's too expensive seeing as you're not spending money on extra holiday stuff

Face masks, foot masks, hair mask, colouring book and pens/pencils, chocolate, afternoon tea (delivered), flowers...really comfy pillow and silk pillowcase.

Online shop is coming tonight. I am almost out of food due to the fact I was meant to be away so I will be very glad to have something in!

A colouring book is a lovely idea, I have some pens and pencils but I've never had a colouring book. I will have a look online and see if one takes my fancy.

Your post also reminds me that I have various beauty things around the house that I don't always take the time to use, including a clay face mask so I will dig them out when I feel like I can extract myself from the sofa.

If your throat is as sore as mine, some expensive indulgent ice cream.

ThreeRingCircus · 07/07/2022 13:35

Get some really nice food in with plenty of snacks that you really fancy.

Long bubble baths listening to music.

Audiobooks are a great idea, you could also find some podcasts there are some great ones out there.

Watch feel good films that don't require much thought.

Delicious juicy diluting juice and spicy crisps. That's what I needed. Get well soon 🙂

Soup made by a nice deli and some soft bread, face masks, some expensive ice cream, a fresh pair of super comfortable pajamas!

Thank you all - my brain is totally fried, so your suggestions are really helping. I failed to order ice-cream but my throat is very sore so I have poured myself a heavily iced glass of elderflower cordial. Sorry you're also suffering @Startuplife. Crisps are coming tonight and hoping they will scratch the itching also in my throat!

Any pyjama/nightie suggestions? That is an excellent idea, I think I would like a new summer nightie.

Oohh interesting to hear your throat is also itchy. I thought that was my hay fever on top of Covid but perhaps not!

sleighbellsjiggling · 07/07/2022 17:05

Footner so you'll have lovely soft feet by the time you're allowed out and gives a good excuse to soak your feet every day.

A good book/magazines

A colouring book is a great idea with some lovely bright gel pens

New nail varnish

Wine

Would be my list. I hope you feel better soon Flowers

@Startuplife I have hay fever too, but I don't normally get an itch like this - and my friend has caught Covid at the same time and also has the itching throat so I think it might be one of the crap range of symptoms :/

I might get myself some new Kindle books as well, probably very low brain power ones.

Thank you for all the suggestions, it's lovely to have some nice things to focus on so I'm not moping.
