I just googled university fees Wales and various sources say university fees are up to £9k per year. Why do you think it might be free?

Are you confusing Wales with Scotland, who have a different education system to England and Wales? Scottish home students don't pay university fees at Scottish universities. If you Google Scottish university fees, you will find the eligibility criteria for being a Scottish home status student.

The maintenance loan includes a sizeable grant that doesn't have to be paid back.

You have to have lived there as your main address for 3 yrs previous.

Daughter is English and at Welsh uni, her friend is Welsh at same uni.
