Family games for teenagers.

We've got to the stage where teenagers don't sit with us in the evening but go off and look at phones etc. I want to encourage them to re-engage.
Can anyone recommend a game - probably not a full-on board game but maybe a card game type thing, 20-30 mins that would spark an interest? DS likes science, dungeons and dragons, medieval history... (geeky stuff).
Thank you x

Cards against humanity do a family edition, and it was free to download for a while.

FourEyesGood · 06/07/2022 21:22

Exploding Kittens, Dominion (expensive and a bit complicated, but really great), Unstable Unicorns, Catan - all popular with my 14yo.

Normal cards against humanity is very popular here.

I know it's a board game but pandemic works really well as well (even when DS decides to be a terrorist)

My teens like Skyjo. It doesn’t take long for one game but you can play multiple games until someone gets 100 points, so it takes longer

Port Royal is popular here, and Forbidden Island, and Fluxx (loads of varieties to match interests). You could do worse than poker, rummy or bridge - all can be addictive!

In the light evenings, ours’ are loving Kubb in the garden. It’s an old Viking strategy game and can get very competitive!

JugglingJanuary · 07/07/2022 06:27

Bonanza is hands down the most favourite card game with our teens, and we have a lot of games.

Snake oil and things go down well in our house. We have been playing things since the kids learned how to write-there are a few adult cards, but we just used to skip.those when the kids were younger.

The sock game.

There are six grandchildren, top of the pile two twenty one year olds and bottom of the list a fourteen year old.

I bought this and asked them to road test it for me. We always gather at my home before we head off to our respective family homes for Christmas dinner. They wandered off to the other room and you could see them thinking lame lame oh so lame, 🙄🙄 Half an hour later, howls of laughter across the age spectrum and they played for a good hour. James came out and said I never touched my phone, that is a good game.
