5oz bottle at 2 weeks and 3 days?!

DS has been having 4oz every 3 hours for the last week (on formula, Kendamil). He now seems to be hungry for more after he drains those. He is upset after feeding and burping, sucking his hand etc etc. He is a big boy, 8lbs 9oz at birth and has made it back up past that now.

Considering upping to 5oz; I know they say to feed on demand but that is way too much surely?!

No not too much. If he’s hungry, feed him

x2boys · 06/07/2022 06:40

If he's hungry he's hungry mine are 15,and 12 now so it's been a while but the advice was if they are draining the bottle go up an ounce .

Nope not too much. As above, I was told by my midwife once they start to completely finish the bottle, start adding an extra ounce

Just make his bottle bigger

If a baby is hungry... feed him more.

x2boys · 06/07/2022 09:11

And you have to remember, if the baby was breastfed ( my boys were both bottle fed so I'm not making this a breast/bottle ) they would just feed until they had had enough, you wouldn't be worrying about ounces .

We were in the same boat! My LB is 13 weeks and now on 7 6oz bottles a day! He is perfect! Take your lead from them, otherwise they will be asking for more every 2 hours and that's hard going!

star-87 · 06/07/2022 09:59

I was always told you can't over feed a baby.. My lo was a hungry baba and wanted more and more and more 😂 I couldn't keep up with breast feeding tbh lo was way to hungry

showmethegin · 06/07/2022 13:45

Thanks all, I suspected as much! I've upped him to 5 now and he seems to be taking about 4 and a bit!

As I mentioned he is big, but his dad is 6"3 too so to be expected!

Perfectly normal

Once they continuously drain the bottle, it’s always worth adding another ounce to ensure the baby is well fed and content.
