Should I have my ears pierced?

I had my ears pierced when I was 18 (my mum made me wait!) After a year or so they kept on getting pussy and infected (probably not helped by wearing cheapy earrings from Chelsea Girl...) and I eventually let them close up. Thirty years on and I fancy wearing earrings again. But will it happen again? Or do you think I will be ok with better quality earrings? Also, would it be better to a needle piercer? Thanks for any insights!

I was in a similar position to you - had to let my piercings close up as they were so troublesome (they were done with a gun), but really missed being able to wear earrings so took the plunge last year and went to a proper piercing studio and had them redone with needles. They healed perfectly and I've had no pain or swelling at all - a far better experience! I'd say definitely go for it and have them done with needles :-)

I second going to a proper piercer! They cost a lot more, but its so worth it!!

How much did it hurt? Mine have all but closed up now and became so sore on the odd occasion i ever did wear earrings. I'm also tempted to have it done properly again

Only wear surgical steel until they are completely healed. Having a nightmare with my DD wearing sterling silver before they healed up so have bought some steel ones in the hope they will heal up.

Use surgical steel earrings and go to a piercing shop where they use needles to pierce. They'll advise you on how to keep them clean

I'm a total wimp when it comes to pain, and I was fine - it stung a little when the needle first went in, and when she pulled the actual stud through the hole, but it was so quick and the pain really only lasted a couple of seconds.
