I'm supposed to be swimming 100 yards.
I'm swimming in a 25 meter pool.
How many lengths do I have to do?
I keep getting the answer to 5 ( rounded up) but that cant be right. It's not worth putting a cozzie on for that!!
Help my weary brain out please!🤣

100 yards = 90m roughly
So just under 4 lrngths

Glorieta · 05/07/2022 10:54

100 yards = approx 91 metres so 4 lengths

PestorPeston · 05/07/2022 10:54

100 yards is 91.44m
Four lengths will give you 9 and a third yards.

What the heck are you up to that you have to measure swimming in yards not metres?

Sidge · 05/07/2022 10:54

100 yards is 91.44 metres.

So you’d have to do 3.66 lengths.

PestorPeston · 05/07/2022 10:55

Can you cope with swimming 109.56 yards 😂
I'm intrigued

Sprogonthetyne · 05/07/2022 10:56

1 yard = 0.91m, so 100 yard =91m

91/25 = 3.64 (round up to 4?)

Are you sure it was 100 yards? It dose not seem far at all. Could it have been 1000, and you were meant to do 36 lengths?

FlipFlopShopInHawaii · 05/07/2022 10:58

Everyone's calcs are right, how are you working it out?

On google type in 100 yards in metres

I did! Then I divided that by 25( length of pool) so getting it to around 4 or 5 lengths either rounded up or down.
It's a training plan that I want to follow and for the first couple of weeks the swimming is around 50 yards plus cool down ( 50 yards)
It didnt seem worth getting wet for do I thought I must be doing something wrong!!

It's a training programme.

Maybe it’s designed as a slow start for people not used to exercise? Maybe skip ahead to whatever starting point is comfortable for you!

notacooldad · 05/07/2022 11:18

I think you are right fabicelolly. I just wanted to be sure I wasnt missing something and thinking it's a breeze when I've calculated it wrong!!
🤣🤣

I'm guessing its an American plan?

Four lengths would be a lot for someone who isn't a very good swimmer or very unfit or recovering from injury

I'm not sure to be honest. It's a beginner triathlon plan.
I thought I'd give my self something to focus on as I like routine.
I'll give it a go but I wont be having separate pool sessions for 4 lengths. I'll tag it on to my gym or pilates sessions!🤣

A job in the government awaits you!!!!

Good luck with the swimming.

KarrotKake · 05/07/2022 11:31

How far do you think you could swim?
Could you push together training session 1,2 ,3 and 4 the first time, then do sessions 5,6 and 7 til you get to a point that a training session is wrth getting changed for?

notacooldad · 05/07/2022 11:31

🤣🤣🤣🤣
Give me a break!!!. My menopausal fuzzy head makes me doubt myself all the time. At least I'm not going to put a decimal point in the wrong place and think I have to swim 400 lengths as part of a beginner plan!!

Can’t you find a training plan in metres? It’s goiNo to be this confusing for weeks if you stick with yards!

I usually do 50 breast stroke.
But I'm going to stick with the plan of 50yrd +50 yards cool down but working on f/c and getting my technique right.
The pool is inclusive if my gym price so that's a good thing.
It was a good suggestion and I probably would have done it if my stoke was strong enough.

INeedNewShoes · 05/07/2022 11:35

Just pretend it says 'metres' instead of yards. You don't have to be exact for it to have benefit and in fact, you'll end up doing slightly more than suggested which isn't a bad thing.

I agree, it's not worth the palaver to swim so short a distance!

WellThatsGrim · 05/07/2022 11:38

To make it worth it i would do 4 front crawl then 50 breaststroke as usual. Front crawl sucks and 4 lengths is too long 😂 what triathlon is it? Are you not allowed to do breaststroke?

TeenDivided · 05/07/2022 11:38

For the purposes of this, just take 'yards' to mean 'metres'. It isn't worth the angst.

'A metre measures 3 foot 3 it's longer than a yard you see'.
A yard is 3 foot.

brokengoalposts · 05/07/2022 11:41

It's it worth the effort getting wet for 5 lengths, just up it to 400m/800m or whatever you feel comfortable with and move yourself up a few notches in the training program.

notacooldad · 05/07/2022 12:25

Thanks everyone for tips and confirming that I shouldn't really doubt myself.
I'm off for a gym and swin and trying not to look like I'm drowning with my terrible front crawl technique!!
