Another vote for stagecoach summer workshops.

CMOTDibbler · 03/07/2022 21:13

Paddleboarding with local provider. A nice combination of activity, education about water safety, social interaction and dicking about. It gave Ds so much confidence and fitness

LilyMarshall · 03/07/2022 21:15

Immediately after covid restrictions, it was Guides. All outside activities
and sports. Interesting and varied. Since they were able to meet inside again it became prep for being 1950’s housewives, all baking and crafts.

Ice skating lessons are well planned and structured, with a clear plan of
progression.

Swimming lessons follow a clear plan of progression.

dance lessons.

gymnastics.

anything working towards grades. As there are clear plans in place to get them there.

baby ballet was dreadful, but the teacher didnt help.

motogirl · 03/07/2022 21:15

Orchestra (county system)

Ragwort · 03/07/2022 21:17

Cricket ... from age 6... great coaching, opportunity to play at County Level ...still playing at 21 at Uni and a wonderful way to meet new friends.

(DH & I are both ex Scout Leaders and it is heart warming to read the positive comments about scouting - just a shame our own DS wasn't hugely enthusiastic about scouting!).

Young Carers, ds has been a young carer for me & his dad since he was 8 & has been a member of young carers ever since, he started un the junior group & has gone right through to the Action Group, he has been on television, appeared in training films for health & social care, spoken at a conference of 200 delegates & is going on a visit to Parliament soon, at the end of this school year he has to finish & he has been nominated to become a trustee of the charity.

RomainingCalm · 03/07/2022 21:23

For both DC it has been hockey. Team sport, inclusive, friendly club and opportunities to make good friends outside of school friends. Great for fitness and as they got older opportunities for coaching and umpiring. Also opportunities to play in the adult leagues and at County level or higher.

Unlike some sports they can carry on playing for many, many years. Our club has players in their 60s and 70s.

BeginningBridge · 03/07/2022 21:25

Dinghy Sailing - both made lots of friends and were able to carry on sailing at university.

Undertheoldlindentree · 03/07/2022 21:28

Athletics club. Something for everyone in the wide range of events. Enthusiastic coaches, plenty of competitions at all levels. You also compete against yourself - so even if you come last in an event, if you beat your own previous PB....you go home happy!

Rookiemistake · 03/07/2022 21:31

Netball
Hockey
Cricket
Athletics

Different kids with different sports but all have continued to play and now wherever they go they can find a team and a ready made social activity as well as keeping fit.
