If you work bank shifts, what is the cancelling etiquette?

I work bank shifts as my second job.

I have three booked over the next 2 months but I want to cancel them. I am exhausted (both jobs in care) and after having a good think to myself, something has to give. I am also caring for my disabled son, my disabled brother, the kids will be on holiday and I am juggling so much that life is starting to feel like a drudge.

The first shift is next Sunday. I know they are short staffed but is a week good enough time to cancel?

Generally as soon as you know you can't/won't be doing the shift. It's worth checking your terms and conditions though as they might stipulate something but due to the nature of bank work I doubt they'd be able to enforce anyway.

A week is fine. We often have people cancel the same day, which is annoying but a week definitely gives time to get alternative cover.

The rules in our NHS trust is 2 hours cancellation!
I think a week is plenty.
