How many items you have bought compared to the over all price?
Growing up I remember for some weird reason my mum would always check the receipt when leaving Asda. She had a budget of £100 a week for shopping and was always happy to be as near to 100 items as she could get for that price.
Some weeks it would be less if she had washing powder etc and she'd be delighted other weeks when she could hit 120 items within budget.
I don't know why it popped into my head tonight when unpacking the online shop but my measly 77 items cost me £163 🙄 that wasn't even any big ticket items.
I'm really close to my mum but wonder how disappointed in me she will be when I tell her, honestly everything is like joke prices now.

Yes I habitually check, like you my mum also had also had a tight budget and core items we needed. Undoubtedly prices have rocketed. My observation Is I buy more treat stuff. My mum had to be restrained and restricted in what she chose. Own brand, yellow stickers all that stuff

I do, again inspired by my mother having to stick to a very strict budget.

Today Aldi £38.38 - 34 items yeah, not bad considering that included two big boxes of Yorkshire tea

Yesterday Morrisons £29.04 - 12 items ouch, probably they tray of dog food ( 12 tins )
