OK, so send old mascara wands to hedgehog rescues - what else?

On the thread re leaving water out for hedgehogs, a poster said to send old, clean mascara wands to hedgehog rescue centres as they use them to groom the hedgehogs.

I already donate old pillows and blankets (but not sheets or duvets) to my local cat rescue.

I'm aware you can donate used glasses to opticians and bras to charity shops for them to send abroad.

Are there any other wee things like this that we can all be doing? Either with used items or just other small useful, charitable gestures.

Thanks!

What crawled up your crack and died?! What a weirdly aggressive and horrible post.

I thought it was pretty measured given what it was responding to.

We gave all our old towels to a pet rescue place, they were all well over a decade old and a bit worn but they were well received.

SeaStatePhenomenal · 03/07/2022 11:30

@DiamanteDelia who asked your opinion.? Gfu

ChinBristles · 03/07/2022 13:58

Oh yes, our cat rescue takes towels. Forgot about that.

When mu mum died I contacted some of the small animal charities as I thought the bed pads she used (well, unused if you see what mean!) might be handy for puppy training. They took these gratefully.

Contact lenses and contact lense packets can be recycled at Boots and other places Contact lense recycling

The cat rescue near me DOESN'T want duvets. Not sure why. Mind you, I recently invested in some wool duvets which will apparently last me the rest of my life!

Not rtft, so someone has probably answered but it's because duvets cannot be easily washed. All pet bedding used in rescues needs to go through a normal washing machine.

Ive just read that u can recycle old plastic plant pots at dobbies.

There's a refill shop near me and they take blister packs, crisp packets and all-sorts so of you can follow one of those on social media and you happen to be going to the area of one it can be worthwhile

Wallawallakoala · 03/07/2022 23:24

Oh god sorry just read your update op ignore my post!

Most local wildlife hospitals have a Amazon wish list that you can have a look at and buy something in your price range, share this with your friends. Buying a bag of wax worms really helps.

Support their open days.

Make you garden wildlife friendly and try initiatives in your local area, such as hedgehog highways

Baby hedgehog I was feeding the other day for attention!

Adorable 🥰
