Amalgam fillings tasting really metallic

I have had very large amalgam fillings in two of my back lower molar for years.
I have noticed this last year or so that I am getting a very distinct metallic taste from them.
I just googled and it says it could mean the fillings are breaking down!
I do grind my teeth at night, so am not sure if that is making things worse but am a bit worried as I’ve read that mercury fillings can be dangerous if they start to break down but I can’t afford to have them removed.
Does anyone else experience a strong metallic taste from their fillings?
