I was going to buy a fountain pen but seems a bit it: child is going to local secondary not fancy pants grammar.

Want to mark the occasion in some way though

Nice ball pen maybe but for today's kids a fountain pen would equate to cupboard clutter.

I haven't seen one getting used in years. I used to see documents getting signed with them but now everyone is using electronic signatures.

Maybe one of those filofax organisers, some even come with a pen?
I was given one yonks ago, u can replace pages in a binder as u go from year to year and if it's in a nice cover it's a pleasure to use.

Or just a nice notepad.
