In answer to question of why ?

She understands diversity and can hear the voices of many, many different people

She is empathic

She is a mother with the interests of children at heart

She understands a great deal about social mobility

She is resilient

She has experience of international politics

She knows about teamwork

She is well presented

She is young, healthy, talented and flexible

She is good at networking

She is adept at dealing with the media

She is hard working having put herself through college......

Hmmm, Meghan is an intelligent and dynamic woman, and I'd agree with a number of these, but a few are a bit fanciful or are pushing it really...

She is empathic - I think she can be yes, but selectively, some of her (or her husbands) family might dispute this, or former friends and employees perhaps. Strategic empathy maybe - but then, that is very politician like!

She is resilient - As a PP suggested, she doesn't appear emotionally resilient - 'nobody asked if I'm ok' etc. Like many actors that have to face rejection after rejection, they are often those with thinest skin, ill-equipped for the challenges of their chosen career. More resilient than Harry though, and he may be her weak link in that regard.

She has experience of international politics - Really? A ceremonial tour or two with Harry to Commonwealth countries where political involvement or influence is actually frowned on? An early, short internship before her acting career? Unless I've missed another job.

She is adept at dealing with the media - Hmmm again. It's not gone so well so far. Lots of lawsuits yes. Lots of enemies made within the press ranks. I'm not saying she doesn't have reason to dislike the press, particularly in the UK, but a politician has to be adept at working the media, be they friendly or not. Not sure things could be classified as 'adept' so far.

But as I said in an earlier post, I don't think she, or Harry, would even consider bringing the type of public scrutiny, exposure and intrusion that a political career demands. They left for privacy, this would be the polar opposite of their stated goal.

I also don't think either would be willing to give up their British royal titles either, which they need for their commercial ventures to be financially viable, in order to support themselves. This alone would rule her out of any US political position of power.

the ultra far right Daily Fail

Oh get a grip. What would you do if you saw something that was actually far right?

She's a woman and therefore she won't be President. The US is deeply sexist. The best qualified woman to ever run ran opposite the least qualified man to ever run. Guess who got it.

If Kamala Harris runs in 2024, the next president could easily be a woman. If not in 2024, I think it'll happen within a few years.

Not that KH has inspired much confidence as yet, I keep waiting and hoping.

Cameleongirl · 01/07/2022 18:30

The problem with Hillary Clinton is that she was unpopular among the general public and Bernie Sanders' campaign really undermined her support.

There must be better candidates out there than KH. She appears totally out of her depth.

Cameleongirl · 01/07/2022 18:50

@LondonWolf She does, doesn't she? It's a real shame.

i didnt think US citizens were allowed to have Royal titles, i think its in the constitution, why is Meg allowed to use Harrys ?

CPL593H · 01/07/2022 21:40

All this makes me really wish Michelle Obama would run, she would be amazing and is easily as qualified as Hillary, without any of the negatives and dodgy history. I think though she has too much good common sense to want it.

I thought US citizens running for public office couldn't have a foreign title?

@Lola4321

The Clintons are as dodgy as anything.

  1. More women vote than men in presidential elections there, so if a woman doesn't win the presidency it's down to women as much as men

  2. A majority of white women voted Trump over Hilary

  3. Hilary and the Clintons are very widely disliked. And people have long had enough of establishment neoliberalism, which is why populists keep on getting success.

thebabessavedme · 01/07/2022 23:50

she is a 2 bit actress, without harry she has no cachet, they will be divorced long before she can make enough money to run for president, she and harry are now totally irrelevent to a wider audience than 'celeb culture' and reality crap shows, bye bye!

Momtotwokids · 02/07/2022 02:59

I live in the US and as a country we have voted for Trump and Biden so it shows we are dumb but hopefully not that dumb to elect her.

SlowHorses · 02/07/2022 06:53

@stayingpositiveifpossible

imagining all that we’re true, those attributes rarely matter as it’s not about being a team player or emphatic etc. (quite the opposite arguably!) - it’s which part of the electorate you appeal to with certain policies. Whatever my thoughts on Trump, he uncovered an unmet need with a huge part of the population. I’m struggling to see who that would be for MM. I don’t believe true democrats would go for her as she’s not smart enough and too fickle between what she says and then does.

There’s having a college degree (theatre studies was it?) and there’s Obama (and Michelle) as grads from Harvard Law. Not even in the same league.

Obama might be more likeable than Clinton but no way is she as qualified. Clinton was a NY senator and the Secretary of State.

You are quite right, I had completely forgotten and she does have a stronger background. I don't think she will make President though, rightly or wrongly. Too much Clinton 'stuff'.
