What do you reckon?

OP posts:
hatchyu · 01/07/2022 14:59

Better than Trump

hatchyu · 01/07/2022 15:00

I don't think "the children" take up too much of her time, so you never know ...

🙄

Wartywart · 01/07/2022 15:01

Well she has another 40 years to get there if we go by Joe Biden's example.

JaneJeffer · 01/07/2022 15:02

I read that Bradley Cooper was going for it.

CPL593H · 01/07/2022 15:03

Giving up her title would be non negotiable, I'd think. 'President Princess Henry' is beyond odd even to imagine. Not sure about his, but can you imagine the optics of them wearing ducal coronets and robes at eg a Coronation and then re crossing the pond to engage in US governance? Can't see the most Anglophile American going for it (and neither should they)

RedCardigan · 01/07/2022 15:05

I’d think she’d be great actually!

MajorCarolDanvers · 01/07/2022 15:06

I reckon she fancies herself for it.

Probably wouldn't be any worse than Trump is the best I could say.

Spanielsarepainless · 01/07/2022 15:08

She would have to give up her title.

stayingpositiveifpossible · 01/07/2022 15:12

We in the U.K. might be a republic anyway in fourty years! Perhaps she won't have a title by then?

What would that make Harry. Prince First Man 😄 🤣

Omg

stayingpositiveifpossible · 01/07/2022 15:17

No, it would have to be 'First Gentleman' surely?

Not that she stands a chance but I think it will be a very long time before we see a female president in America sadly. Possibly never the way things are going.

hatinacat · 01/07/2022 15:20

Her mental health couldn't cope with being a Royal...

Also despite the well-justified hatred for Trump he has experience in the wheelings and dealings of businessmen. Greasing palms. That sort of thing.

Anyone who’s owned their own business.. say Victoria Beckham would have some relevant experience

Meghan has done none of that, signing random TV etc deals doesn’t equate to building a brand and running an actual company

To be fair she has been involved in a few deals. Wasn't she a case opener on Deal or No Deal?

Sittininafield · 01/07/2022 15:49

But she found being a member of the royal family - huge press interest, lots of boring functions, zero responsibility, too hard. President would be way harder!

LondonWolf · 01/07/2022 15:58

Those who think she'd be great, this is genuine question, why? What has she done, what experience does she have that would indicate she could do that job and do it really well?

stayingpositiveifpossible · 01/07/2022 14:04

Ronald Reagan made it and he was an actor!

He was the Governor of California through the 60s and 70s though, so he didn't just come from nowhere.

Trump has changed the goalposts perhaps but even he was involved in politics numerous times. It was often suggested Oprah would run for president, so it's not likely.

abblie · 01/07/2022 16:00

Jesus wet 🤣

If the Democrats didn't put up such a wretched candidate as Hillary Clinton, Trump would never have won in 2016. Even a majority of white women voted against her.

Wept ffs

dudsville · 01/07/2022 16:04

I don't know, I could get behind that.

Better than Trump

Is that the bar? 360m people and the standard for one of the most powerful positions in the world is "better than Trump"? Oh dear.

Good point. She was literally contemplating suicide from comments in the newspapers making her feel like she was under a microscope. How on earth would she cope with criticism from the entire world? That's no shade on her. Presidents have to be almost narcissistic in confidence or they and their self-esteem would just never survive. Even more so in these days of social media.

Fluffymule · 01/07/2022 16:13

I don't think either Meghan or Harry could cope with the forensic and unrelenting US media and press attention any political career would create. Harry in particularly has been vocal about the impact on his mental health of being in a high profile, institutional role that carries public scrutiny, duty and managed protocol.

They clearly already hate what they experienced with the UK press. It would be much much worse in the USA, particularly when the Republican (I assume she would be Democrat) media outlets and organisations start to dig into their personal lives and histories even further. Nothing would be off the table, including their children, families, ex-partners and so on.

I'm not suggesting that either of them have any dark skeletons that we know nothing of, but if there is anything that can be trawled up and used against them, it will be. Thomas Markle and Meghans half siblings, Harry's behaviour in the Army, all that type of stuff will be rehashed continually to discredit them.

I simply can't see either of them opening themselves up further to that type of scrutiny. I mean, it's why they left the UK in the first place, privacy and the need to step away from sense of public ownership of their lives by others.

Beamur · 01/07/2022 14:00

Why not?
A few years ago people would have laughed at anyone suggesting Donald Trump.
America is weird.

It costs roughly $600 million to over a billion to run a Presidential campaign, they're not going to get the funds unless they've got serious backers, besides, Meghan has done diddly squat for Netflix and Spotify so I don't think she's got the work ethic or the money to pull it off..
