I’ve unexpectedly been given tickets for this on Sunday. Would it be suitable to take my 11 year old. Not sure how long they’ve got the stamina for - or me! It seems to start at 5 and go on till 10 but you seem to need to get there much earlier.
did anyone go last week? Any tips? I think comfy shoes are a must to stand around for that length of time. I find I can walk for hours , but if I stand in the same place for too long I get dizzy!!

We went last week for the Eagles and it was pretty chilled loads of places to get food and drink with small queues lots of people took picnic blankets and just chilled saw the other acts and had a great day

Agingrocker · 01/07/2022 23:00

Lord I hadn’t even thought about what to wear. Had no idea I could take in a picnic blanket so thanks for that tip!
think We might try and get there for about 6 ish and maybe leave before the end. Don’t want to be trapped in huge crowd and unable to leave!

I was there last weekend and saw lots of kids, although not sure I’d bring mine into the standing area just in front of the stage as they wouldn’t be able to see and it’s a bit of a crush.

The Stones come on at 8 and play for about 2 hours, including an encore. I don’t know where Mick gets his energy from but he should bottle it and sell it! He’s incredible for 49 let alone 79!

LondonKitKat · 02/07/2022 16:48

I was there last week too. Stones we’re brilliant. Lots of older kids and teenagers. Plenty of food places. Get there to see Courtney Barnett if you can, she’s great and on at 4.50. We were a way back and loads of space for a picnic blanket. Took a while to get out and the tube stations were all very busy so maybe leave a bit before the end if you want to avoid.

A word of warning - you're not allowed to take bottles of water in. You can take a bottle but it has to be empty and though I was told there were refill stations, I couldn't find any. The bars sell cans(!) of water for about £2.50 but obviously they're not as convenient as bottles because once opened you can't close them.

Agingrocker · 03/07/2022 08:22

Oh no. Thanks for that @BeckyWithTheAverageHair
i thought you could take small bottles in.
I read No food or drink is permitted to be brought into American Express presents BST Hyde Park (With the exception of water in unopened plastic containers of up to 500ml, and baby food where not in glass containers). We allow patrons to bring in empty water bottles to refill at one of our free refill points across the festival arena

on the other concert chat currently going it talks about talking retractable stools. Was just about to make an emergency purchase on Amazon but then read the guidance and it says no chairs of any sort’. Guess it will have to be a picnic blanket! Yea

That's annoying @Agingrocker. We were made to empty ours but fortunately they were only 25p bottles from Lidl! Perhaps it depends on the area. We were lucky enough to get comp tix for the secret garden but perhaps the down side is that you have to buy your water!

I have never had a can of water anywhere that you can't reseal.

@Agingrocker @Mercedesbenz2022 Hope you enjoyed the gig last night? I just saw the set list and it's actually different to what they did the weekend before when I saw them. Wish I could've gone again tbh!

Mercedesbenz2022 · 04/07/2022 09:18

@BeckyWithTheAverageHair
hi you beat me too it , I was about to message you
it was fantastic ,jagger was amazing , energy , personality , ohh those moves !
had a great day

funny tale on the way in a couple with a baby were walking in front of us , and I heard them say ‘ oh it looks like something is on, but maybe we need tickets ‘
made me smile , I didn’t, but felt like saying
OMG it’s the ROLLING STONES

fabulous day , hope everyone that went enjoyed

see you at the next gig 😉

Agingrocker · 04/07/2022 10:52

Hi @BeckyWithTheAverageHair
yes we really enjoyed it thanks. Can’t believe the energy of Jagger. We did have to leave before the end to get our train home. If we did it again I think I would try and book a hotel in London.

I have to admit to not previously been particularly a Rolling Stones fan, but it was very good. Rather embarrassed when chatting to some couple who asked us our favourite song though. Really didn’t know!

it was absolutely fascinating as well to see the range of people attending.

I saw the set list and it was actually slightly different to the one the previous weekend so I wish I'd gone again! Never mind, they'll do another tour in 10 years time and then of course Keith will be headlining on his own once we're all gone...

Nadal · 04/07/2022 11:35

Did anyone go in the summer garden area? We are going for Pearl Jam and wondering how busy that section is?

BeckyWithTheAverageHair · 04/07/2022 11:54

@Nadal yes, I did, and it was lovely there. Lots of tables and chairs, sofas, bean bags, two bars and a few street food stalls. And most importantly - nice, clean toilets!

It wasn't busy there at all when I went but bear in mind that was the weekend of the train strike so it could be that a lot of people couldn't make it.
